On May 15th and 16th, 2010 will be the 6th annual Dozer Day event. Last year more than 16,000 people from the NW enjoyed Dozer Day at CEMEX-Fisher Quarry in Vancouver, Washington so this year we’ve added Sunday.

Every year Dozer Day grants the wish of kids of all ages to actually get behind the driver seat of the excavation industry’s toughest equipment. Along with excavator, dozer, and dump truck rides; more than 60 sponsor companies hosted other fantastic games like a toy and diamond dig, pipe and monster tire crawls Radio Disney and much more.

The profits raised through ticket sales and sponsorships will go to many local children’s charities making the positive impact of Dozer Day last far into the future.

In 2009 the Nutter Foundation and partners collaborated to relocate the park and big-pipe playground that had been the hub of the Dozer Day site. A crane lifted the 75-ton playground which, along with the the fully landscaped park, were moved to Aurora/Second Step Housing in Vancouver (Non-profit that provides affordable housing to at-risk women and families). This transformed the bare yard on a busy street into an oasis for the children living at Second Step.

We are equally grateful that Dozer Day was able to host more than 500 kids from the Vancouver School District and their adult mentors through the schools’ Lunch Buddy Program. These kids were treated to lunch and had Dozer Day all to themselves in celebration of the end of the school year and the time spent with their mentors. These are children that may not have otherwise had the opportunity to enjoy Dozer Day.

Dozer Day is truly about a community coming together to make a difference while giving families a day that they will never forget. An event of this size takes more than 700 volunteers, but it is all worth it when you see the smile on the kids faces. If you are interested in getting involved by volunteering, making a donation, helping us spread the word or coming to to Dozer Day visit NutterFoundation.org .

The Nutter Foundation is continually searching for other local children’s charities to support, so we welcome recommendations or grant requests. If the organization falls within our criteria we would be glad to consider them (see www.nutterfoundation.org for more info).

Dozer Day is always the third weekend in May, which in 2010, will be May 15th and 16th. We hope to see you out there.
