On February 15, 1940, 24 Franklin Broughton was joined in holy matrimony with Charlotte 25 Bennett, God blessing their union with eight children; and 26 27 Whereas, as a man of faith, he regularly attended Unity Baptist 28 Church, later becoming a member of the congregation and serving 29 as a deacon for several years; and 30 31 Whereas, Franklin Broughton always reminded people that his 32 aunt gave him a bull to pull his plow as a wedding present. This 33 gift began his lifelong love affair with farming, which he 34 continued into his early nineties, and he regularly could be seen 35 throughout the community on his farm equipment on the way to 36 plant or harvest crops; and 37 38 Whereas, having been preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, as 39 well as two of their children, James Broughton and Julia 40 Broughton Sanders, he is survived by his remaining children, Fred 41 (Amelia) Broughton of Orangeburg, Henry Broughton of Cross, 42 Robert (Ruby) Broughton of Fayetteville, Georgia, Eartha (Alvin)

[4642] 2 1 Sanders of Temple Hills, Maryland, Joseph (Rose) Broughton of 2 Decatur, Georgia, and Curtis (Pamela) Broughton of Mauldin; 3 numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and 4 greatgreatgrandchildren; and a host of other family members and 5 friends. He will be missed. Now, therefore, 6 7 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 8 9 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 10 by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of 11 Franklin Broughton of Cross and extend the deepest sympathy to 12 his family and many friends. 13 14 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 15 Fred Broughton for the family. 16 XX 17
