Notes of the meeting of the Events Committee held Thursday 11th February 2016 in the Town Hall, Heanor.

Present: Councillors Heather Longdon (Chair), B. Gration, Mrs A. Jones, K. Hill.

Also present: 1 member of the public

1. Apologies: Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Mrs J Janes (family commitments) and Miss Hannah Stirland (sickness). Agreed: Members approved these reasons for absence.

2. Minutes The Minutes of the Events Committee held on Thursday 12th November 2015, having been circulated to members were approved as a correct record and duly signed by the Chairman.

3. Events for Consideration a) Theatre Play Library Theatre are booked to perform a play entitled 'Kingfisher' at 7pm on Friday 26th February 2016 at The Wilmot Street Centre. At this moment in time only ten adults and four children have booked a place. Agreed: That the event be cancelled, due to lack of response. b) Tea Dance/Hoe Down Jacqueline Naylor is to provide a Tea Dance on the afternoon of Thursday 31st March 2016 in the Town Hall. The event will be held in the Ian Cox Room. An admission fee of £2.00 will be charged, free refreshments and raffle will be included in the admission cost and any profits will be for the Mayor's Charity. Agreed: That posters and flyers are made. c) Annual May Day Event Monday 2nd May 2016 - 2pm-7pm Inflatables/ magic shows/ circus skills workshop / face painting (sited on car park - running 2pm - 6pm) Rock Bands (sited on Market Place providing own stage, - running 3pm - 7pm) Outside Bar - provided by King of Prussia (cost £100) Food outlets to be provided Agreed: Food outlets to be sourced. Candy Floss/face painting to be provided.

Events Committee - 2015/16 d) Band Concert, Heanor Memorial Park - 12th June 2016 Ashbourne Town Band will be performing 2.00-4.00pm. Cost £220. e) Choir/Musical Evening Eastwood Male Voice Choir - not available. Alfreton Male Voice Choir available £150 - 1 x 45 min or 2 x 30 min Sonara Singers - available £150 - 1.5 hours (no break) Heanor Community Choir - not contacted Agreed: Alfreton Male Voice Choir - £150.00 2 x 30 minutes in October 2016. f) Band Concert, Heanor Memorial Park - 4th September 2016 Derwent Valley Wind Band will be performing 2.00-4.00pm. Cost £200. g) Pantomime - Saturday 19th November 2016 Dream Team Theatre Company are performing Cinderella on Saturday 19th November 2016 from 1.30-3.30pm. Agreed: Refreshments - carton of juice/small bag of sweets, toilet break only. Tickets distributed through Town Council office - all seats £1.00 - proceeds to Mayor's Charity. h) Christmas Lights Switch On - Monday 5th December 2016 Tom Clay - Heanor Musical Theatre Company felt that there was a reducing number of people taking part in the Carol singing and suggested that a change of set-up be considered. Agreed: Members also felt that this event needed a revamp and will discuss this in more detail following the Council's Annual General meeting in May. i) Commemoration of Wm Gregg VC Award Centenary 2018 This item to remain on agenda for consideration. Look again after Annual General Meeting.
