TeamMetro Proposal Liz Mechling, School Counselor 4/12/2015

Name of project, proposers and advisor(s).  A 4 hour ACT prep class with Brian Stewart from BWS Educational Consulting. This class is proposed by Liz Mechling and Pam Rodier.

Describe. Have any background that would help us understand this proposal?  We would like to support Metro students as they prepare to take the ACT. Scores on these tests are an important component of college applications and we want Metro students to do their best.

Have you presented the idea to the administration? If so, what feedback did you receive?  I spoke with Mrs. Pace about this on a few occasions. She had a few questions and is in full support of hosting a ACT prep class at Metro.

What kind of time constraints are there? Do you have a timeline?  The final ACT of the 2014-2015 school year is on Saturday, July 13th. We would like to hold the ACT prep class on Saturday, May 16th in order to give the students a few weeks to practice the skills they learned in the prep class before they take the ACT.

What other resources may be required—space, materials, transportation, etc.? Income (if the proposed activity has any)  We will need a space for 35 students. We will also need a computer and projector. There will not be an income for this project.

Can you estimate receipts?  ?

How will you safeguard the intake and retention of cash receipts?  How will students pay their $25 portion? Directly to BWS or to Mrs. Burgett?

Can you estimate/list expenses? What do you base these estimates on?  The cost for the 4 hour course is $1,600 for 20 students. It is $25 for each additional student up to 35 students. So the cost for 35 students would be $1,975.  This would make the cost per student $56.43.  We would ask the students to pay $25 and the remaining amount, $31.43 per student, would be covered by the TeamMetro and Metro High School.  $1,975 - $875 (paid by students) = $1,100 left to cover  $550 covered by Metro, $550 covered by TeamMetro

Specifically, what kind of commitment are you looking for from TeamMetro?  We would like financial support from TeamMetro in the amount of $550. Student Participation Is the proposal generated by Metro students?  This proposal is not directly generated by Metro students but students are always asking me about test prep for the ACT. I sent a survey out to Metro sophomores and juniors in March asking who would be interested in taking an ACT prep class. 45 students responded that they were interested.

Did the idea encourage Metro habits?  This prep class will require the students to be inquiring learners, critical thinkers and engaged learners.

How many students are projected to participate in or benefit from the event/activity?  35 students

Faculty/Staff/Administration Does the event/activity have the support of the school’s administration?  Yes, Mrs. Pace supports this event.

Benefit to Metro Early College High School Will the event/activity benefit Metro HS programing and operations? If, so how?  I will be present at the ACT prep class and use the tips and strategies given with students who were not able to attend. I will be better prepared to speak with students about preparing for the ACT.

Will the event/activity benefit future students of Metro?  See above

Is the proposal creative? Novel? Does it excite the imagination? If so, how?  We have never done something like that at Metro before.

Will the event/activity be STEM-related?  ?
