When You Finish, You Should Have Three Segments in the Venn Diagram

COMPARING CULTURES

The goal of this exercise is to determine how much you know about your own and “hispanic” cultures. The Venn diagram format will help you identify the contrasting features of these two cultures and to identify the values and concepts they have in common. You will be asked to complete this exercise again on the last day of class to see how your ideas might have changed as a result of these 20 hours of instruction combined with your out-of-class activities.

When you finish, you should have three segments in the Venn diagram:

 Characteristics of U.S. culture  Characteristics of “Hispanic” cultures  Characteristics which the two cultures have in common

On Day 8, you might want to list those characteristics that have remained constant, those that have been eliminated, and those that have been added.
