Congratulations! You are now a part of the Lady Patriots soccer program. Being a part of this program entails that you adhere to the following expectations and guidelines to ensure that we have a successful and productive season. Now, let’s begin…
Attendance:
First and foremost, 100% effort is expected of you at all times whether or not you are on or off the field. Attendance to all soccer practices, games, and activities is mandatory. As accepting your invitation to become a member of this program, you have committed to putting this team as a top priority. Therefore, missing practice and/or games due to oversleeping, playing on another team, choosing to work, or just because you are feeling lazy is unacceptable. As coaches, we are giving you 100% of our effort, so it is only fair that you give us the same in return. If you are to miss a game or practice, the only valid excuses are listed below.
Valid Excuses: absence from school, leaving school early due to illness, Dr. or Dentist Appt. (note needed), family emergency, academic field trip, making up a test, or receiving academic help
If your excuse is not listed above, the entire team will do additional conditioning.
If you need to make up a test or get extra help, it should be done before school or in PRIDE.
Next, BE ON TIME! Be present and prepared at the designated times and places so that we can begin practice as soon as possible. Practice will BEGIN at 4:15. This means that you should be dressed, with your equipment on, and have seen the trainer already if need be. If you arrive any later than 4:15, the team will do extra fitness for every min. that each person is late.
If we are practicing inside, it will be announced and the times will be posted outside of the athletic office (across the hall from the girl’s locker room) and on the girls soccer bulletin board. The same rules apply for indoor times as well.
Game Days:
Home:
. J.V. needs to be dressed and ready to go by 5:00. If you need to see the trainer, you need to come in enough time beforehand so that you will be ready with everyone else at 5:00.
. Varsity needs to be dressed, ready, and at our designated meeting spot by 5:15. We will have our pregame meeting there, and then go out and watch J.V. play. At J.V.’s halftime we will go start our pregame warm-up. CLEATS SHOULD BE ON YOUR FEET & YOU SHOULD BE WALKING OVER AS SOON AS THE HALFTIME WHISTLE BLOWS! Neither Coach. M or I should have to be reminding anyone to do this. Captains will lead the warm-ups.
*NOTE* 2 J.V. players may be scheduled for each home game to be the designated ball girls.
Away:
Departure times for the busses have already been set. I will hand out a schedule to you as to when they will be leaving. You need to arrive at least 20 min. before the bus is to leave to ensure that you are prepared to leave on time. If you need to see the trainer, come earlier. We are a team so therefore we will all ride the bus to and from each game together. There may be times when the bus will shuttle the Varsity and J.V. teams separately. If an athlete needs to leave with her parent or guardian, a note must be given to her coach the day before the game, or before we leave Park View on game day. Notes need to be written by the parent or guardian. This should only occur for unseen or emergency situations.
*For home & away games, you will line your bags up neatly behind the bench*
Equipment & Dress Code:
*Make sure you have a variety of types of clothing/shoes in your soccer locker. During the spring season, weather can vary from day to day. You should be prepared everyday for both cold/warm weather and indoor/outdoor practices.
Upon making a team, each player will be distributed certain equipment that is property of Park View High School. You will be responsible for keeping these items clean and taken care of. In the event that you lost or damage any of the items loaned to you, you will be financially responsible for replacing the item. We are using the same style of socks for both the J.V. and Varsity teams this year. For home games you will wear the white pair, and for away games you will wear the blue. You will need to order at least one set, but you may buy more if you’d like. Varsity will have practice attire that they need to adhere to. The practice clothing schedule will be given to you by your coach. As a program, we will be ordering Adidas training pants that are to be used for travel and pre game warm ups. Also, you will be given the opportunity to purchase additional apparel
(i.e. extra t-shirts, extra sweatshirts etc.). You must provide your own cleats and shin guards. Shin guards will be worn at ALL practices unless you are told otherwise by a coach.
Each Varsity player will be assigned a soccer ball to use for the duration of the season. You are to bring your assigned ball to every practice and game. Failure to bring your ball will result in extra conditioning for the whole team. If you notice that your ball is going flat, bring it to one of the coaches so that we can fix it before it causes a problem.
The way that you present yourself is important. Many times it leaves long lasting impressions on people. Take pride in your school, your team, and yourself. Present yourself in a way that that people take notice in a positive light. We will dress uniformly during warm ups and games. Shirts will be tucked in during practice and games.
I-pods/MP3 players may be listened to on the bus, during long distance conditionings, and while you are in the locker room. Other than that, they should be put away in your bags. Cell phones are not permitted during practice or during game time. You may use them before or after. If you are in the stands, you should be watching the game and cheering on your teammates, not talking/texting on your phone.
Playing Time: Decisions regarding the starting line-up, substitutions, playing time, positions, and strategy are made by the coaching staff. These decisions are based on what a coach thinks is necessary for a given games circumstances. If you are on the Varsity team, playing time is not guaranteed. Decisions made by the coaching staff will not be discussed during the game; however, we would are willing to discuss any concerns you may have as a player by setting up a meeting with the coach. Also, from a coaching stand point, we will not talk to a parent about player issues until the athlete has come to speak to us.
Remember: You have to be at school by 9:15 to participate in practice or a game that day unless it is an excused absence.
Player Guidelines:
We jog EVERYWHERE
We always put the team before ourselves
We work hard
We are on time & dependable
We commit to this team & the goals that we have set
We are responsible for our actions & respectful to officials, opponents, and coaches
We are honest with your coaches & teammates
We dismiss negativity
We accept our role on our team at any given time
We encourage our teammates
We relate to everyone on the team & eliminate cliques- we are in this TOGETHER
Conflict Resolution:
Conflicts between 2 or more players or a player and the coaching staff will be resolved as follows.
Step 1- Player & Coach meet, or Players A & B and Coach meet
Step 2- Players A&B, Coach, and Head Coach meet
Step 3- Players A&B & Parents meet with Coach and Head Coach
Step 4- Players A&B & Parents meet with Coach, Head Coach, & A.D.
The last step will result in either resolution of the problem or a decision to end the relationship between the player/s and the team.
Injury Guidelines:
Players need to see the trainer immediately if an injury is believed to have occurred. If an athlete chooses to go to the hospital or doctors office without seeing the trainer, a note will be required that is signed by the doctor that allows the athlete to play. However, our trainer has the final say on allowing an athlete to return to playing, even if the athlete has been cleared by a doctor. I cannot stress enough the importance of seeing the trainer before going to a physician. A lot of the time, all that is needed for injuries is some rehabbing with our trainer. Mr. Hotchkiss is a very good and experienced athletic trainer. He will refer you to a physician if need be. *NOTE* You will need to have Mr. Hotchkiss sign & note the time you leave the training room every time you see him.
