RESEARCH EXPERIENCE: 2011 Summer Soil Science Institute at Colorado State University. Two week, intensive short course to learn soil science and techniques for measuring soil biodiversity and chemistry. Awarded grant to cover tuition costs. 2009 Cruise to the Oregon Borderlands Basin. Two week cruise where I was responsible for deployment and recovery of benthic landers, squeezing pore waters, and analyzing water for nutrients (TCO2, NH4, Fe, Mn, PO4) 2009 Zaca Lake as a Proxy for Southern California Climate, Sediment trap study. Responsible for the quarterly deployment and recovery of sediment trap Analyze samples for mass, biogenic silica, and organic carbon fluxes 2004- Detrital and Marine Material San Pedro Ocean Time Series sediment traps. 2008 Prepare mooring for recovery and deployment every 3-6 months, process samples (up to 42 samples/ deployment) and analyze for total carbon, organic carbon, nitrogen, biogenic silica and prepare samples for stable isotope analysis (δ13C, δ15N) 2007- Floating sediment traps, Corg and bSi Flux study. Design and test incubation 2008 experiments to determine remineralization rates of organic carbon and biogenic silica. Measure sediment flux, total mass, POC, PON, CaCO3 and determine POC remineralization by change in TCO2 using coulometry 2008 Barbara Basin sediment coring. Squeeze sediment pore water and run total CO2 on samples using coulometer. 2005 Cruise to California Borderland Basins. Assist with processing of multi-cores and gravity cores and squeeze sediment pore water. Responsible for deployment and recovery of floating sediment traps.
