Dear Parent/Guardian & Flag Team Applicant:

We are so excited to have you as an applicant for the Hammond High Magnet School’s Flag Team! We have high hopes for a successful year. Just a few of the many privileges Flag Team members experience include being a part of all Hammond High Magnet School’s football games, parades, performing for a select number of Hammond High School’s basketball games, leadership opportunities, pep rallies, and the opportunity to be a part of the Flag Team and Marching Tors.

This packet contains instructions regarding the required documents one must have to try out for the team. Enclosed is a copy of the rules and regulations. All paperwork must be signed and returned no later than February 27, 2014 in order to tryout. Please carefully review all of the following information and sign where necessary.

Those selected to be members of the Hammond High Magnet School’s Flag Team will be asked to represent the school as leaders. Along with the privilege of being a member of the HHMS Flag Team, there is a great deal of responsibility.

Flag Team is a year-round commitment. We begin shortly after tryouts and continue until the next year’s tryouts. Please do not schedule vacations during summer camp and events. If you don’t feel that you can dedicate yourself as a flag team member and role model for the entire year or have the physical stamina, please reconsider trying out. As role models for the school, flag team members must uphold a certain level of behavior, maturity, and respect for themselves, as well as their teammates, school, family, and community. I look forward to meeting you at the Flag Team tryouts on March 13th!

Mr. Chad Troxclair HHMS ~ Principal FLAG TEAM RULES AND REGULATIONS 2014-2015

The HHMS Flag Team is a team that executes routines carrying either one or multiple flags or hoops. It is the performing art of twirling one or two flags as part of a choreographed routine and it takes much hand and eye coordination, athleticism, showmanship and overall teamwork and good sportsmanship. Many flag routines involve choreography to music, numerous combinations of twirls, flag tricks, and flag tosses. The Flag Team represents our school at sporting events, parades and other public activities. The group helps create school spirit and promotes pride, loyalty and interest in school wide activities.

MEMBERSHIP:

1. Members of the Flag Team will be chosen by a panel of impartial judges who have no connection at all with the Hammond High Magnet School.

2. Members MUST be in grades 9-12.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Members will be judged on the basis of their physical appearance, poise, rhythm, coordination, ability to adapt quickly to various dance routines, and semester grade point average.

2. In order to try out for the HHMS Flag Team the student MUST have at least a 1.5 semester grade point average. All applicants MUST have a good 2013-14 disciplinary record. Principals and administrative assistants can decline an applicant if their disciplinary record is not in good standing. Parents please check your daughter’s discipline record before paying her tryout fee, because tryout fees are NON- REFUNDABLE.

3. Squad members MUST maintain a minimum 1.5 semester grade point average with no more than one F at the end of each semester.

4. The application fee of $20 is Non-Refundable.

5. Tryout Attire: Anything that does not have a logo or dance sign on it. EX: plain t-shirts, tank tops, plain shorts, jogging pants, tennis shoes, jazz shoes (NO JEANS or JEAN SHORTS)

6. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Flag team tryouts are closed to the public. Only designated personnel, administrators or sponsor(s) will be allowed in the gym during tryouts. **Important HHMS Flag Team Tryout Information** *All applications, a $20 NON-refundable fee and a copy of your latest semester report card MUST be turned in before leaving the MANDATORY student/parent interest meeting on Thurs., Feb. 27, 2014. NO applications will be accepted after the interest meeting. Both the parent and the applicant MUST sign all applications. The MANDATORY interest meeting will be held on Thurs., Feb. 27, 2014. All applicants MUST have a good 2013-14 disciplinary record with a semester GPA of 1.5 or above. Please keep in mind that principals or administrative assistants can decline your child if their disciplinary record does not meet the required standards. Payment/Dates: (CASHIER'S CHECK OR MONEY ORDERS ONLY NO EXCEPTIONS)  A down payment of $400 MUST be paid by Monday, March 31, 2014.  The second payment of $400 is due by Monday, April 14, 2014.  The third and final payment of $340 is due by Thursday, May 1, 2014.
