JOB DESCRIPTION Updated 12/16 Job Title: Pilot Plant Technologist / Teaching Assistant Status: Non-Exempt Department: Food Technical Services Category: Full Time Supervisor: Manager, Pilot Plant

Description of Job Function: Assist in delivery of “hands-on” instructional effort and training of students related to bakery production for a broad spectrum of products across all pilot plant lab areas. Specifically, preparing pilot plant laboratories for baking seminars.

Principal Responsibilities: Prepare and organize labs for planned lab activities with some guidance from AIB technical staff. Provide lab preparation and clean up consistently and in detail oriented manner. Ability to effectively communicate and answer student questions related to hands-on baking activities. Conduct pre-labs and/or post-lab activities as directed including calibration and test-run of equipment. Student supervision to assure completion of assigned tasks according to lab procedures and in compliance with safety and sanitation requirements at all times. Ability to function independently with quick adaptation to equipment and activity change-over. Aptitude for equipment handling with minimal supervision (preliminary training and support provided). Ingredient and material receiving and inventory with ability to lift up to 50 lbs daily. Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling with some bending and exposure to hot and cold environments. Bakery ingredient functionality, ingredient scaling and basic recipe/formulation knowledge ideal.

Principal Customers: Baking Science & Technology resident course and public baking seminar students.

Qualifications: Education – Post-Secondary degree in related field or AIB Baking Science & Technology graduate preferred or qualified work experience. Work Experience - Previous baking and/or teaching experience preferred. Skills - Excellent communication skills –oral and written. Detail oriented and self-motivated. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

Other Requirements: Occasional schedule flexibility between 7:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m., remaining within 40 hours per week total. Conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. Carry out assignments and follow all written and verbal instructions from supervisor in a timely manner. Maintain all safety rules and SOPs in accordance with company and external regulatory policies. Adaptability to changing environment with motivation to maintain high level of functionality through scheduled down time.
