Zabava 2015

Bring your appetite for good food, great music, and talented performers to Zabava 2015, Saturday August 22nd!

Chosyn Catering (Joe & Pat Synyshyn) are back with their authentic, mouth-watering Ukrainian food. Back by popular demand are the world class Ukrainian Shumka Dancers providing heart stopping, floor level action. Axios Men’s Chorus under the direction of Boris Derow will provide an a cappella performance of Ukrainian music. If you enjoyed last year’s energetic performance by quartet Zabava u Koli, you’re in for a treat. These young men will provide the evening’s dance music and a reason to get on the dance floor!

Tickets on Sale Now! In 2015 Zabava tickets will have a coloured dot indicating when ticket holders will enter the hall to choose their seats.  Green dot Tickets bought before July 1 will enter first  Yellow dot Tickets bought before August 1 will enter second  Red dot Tickets bought after August 1 will enter last Advance Tickets are still $50 each regardless of age. Any available at the door are $60 each. Order them online now or at the Andrew Village Office in mid-May.

Babas & Borshch just keeps growing…. let’s count the ways.  FREE 3 oz sample of borshch for everyone who attends the festival. And the only way to get one!  Chef Gail Hall’s Borshch Demo Class is FREE for all Sunday, 11:30 AM, Main Hall  Michael Mucz, bestselling author of Baba’s Kitchen Medicines will do a talk Saturday at 11 AM, Main Hall. Buy your autographed copy.  All Ukrainian, All the Time Kids’ Activities---have your child make a home remedy from Mucz’s book, do a Ukrainian craft, Ukrainian face painting.  Film producer James Motluk’s latest movie A Place Called Shandro will be screened immediately after the Borshch Cook Off in the Main Hall. Come see your friends and neighbours on the ‘big screen.’  Trio Zemlia will perform in the Main Hall on Saturday at 12 PM then hop aboard the shuttle and perform at each of the participating venues: church, museum, grain elevator  “It’s not Sauerkraut, it’s Kapusta!” Bring (or buy) a head of cabbage and a vessel (ceramic, glass, or enamel) and begin the pickling process using an old time recipe & technique, Saturday, Baba’s Bazaar (12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30)  Thistle Hill Petting Zoo is back both days; noon to 4 PM; proceeds from the $2 charge benefit the Lamont County FCSS.  The Touring Tin Car Club will have their pre-1954 cars on display Saturday 10 am-3 pm  Attend a talk “Ukrainian Food—Days of Fasting and Feasting” by Very Reverend Gerasim Power, Saturday 1 PM, Main Hall  Check out the Ukrainian Dance from Village to Stage exhibit on loan from the Kule Folklore Centre, Baba’s Bazaar  Get a ringside seat for a photo slideshow entitled Babas & Babes by Saskatoon photographer Karen Pidskalny, Saturday 2 PM, Baba’s Bazaar  Catch a musical performance by The Soloveykas chorus, Saturday 3 PM, Baba’s Bazaar  Photographer Trudy Harrold’s Churches of Lamont County slide show will run on both Saturday and Sunday, 11 AM, Baba’s Bazaar (Program subject to change without notice) Save the date AUGUST 22-23, ANDREW, AB For more info visit or call 780-365-2434 To receive future email newsletters you must visit to complete the online subscription form.
