SAINT BERNADETTE SILVER AND GOLD SOCIETY

Our next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 and is scheduled to start at 12:30 PM at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church Social Hall.

Your early arrival and assistance is needed to help us set up tables at about 12:15. The men especially are needed for this.

Because the meeting is being held during Lent, the Silver & Gold Hospitality Committee will be serving a meatless soup, bread and beverages. If you want to bring a bread please notify Vince Diguardi at 919-567-3655. The soup and beverages will be paid for from the Silver & Gold treasury. Please do not bring desserts. There will be no dessert served at this meeting.

The speaker for this meeting will be the News and Observer columnist – Mr. Barry Saunders. He has agreed to speak on a topic of his choice which I am sure will be very informative and enjoyable.

Please let us know of any specific programs or topics you have like to have our society learn more about through our monthly speakers.

Don’t forget to pick up your name tag as you come into the hall.

Remember the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel every Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

See you at the meeting and please bring a friend.

The membership is now over 140. Approximately 30 of our members do not have an e- mail on file. The Silver and Gold group would like to create a telephone committee. If just 10 people will volunteer each one would only need to make three calls when notifications need to be out quickly. This will be discussed at our meeting. Please keep it in mind. Do you remember when –

MARCH 29 – 31 STORYTELLING FESTIVAL AT LAURINBURG, NC Our excursion for the month of March takes us to Laurinburg NC for their annual Storytelling Festival. http://www.storytellingfestivalofcarolina.org/ We are running out of time to commit to the festival. Since we are driving individually to Laurinburg, please be sure to sign up on the interest sheet so we know how many of us are going and we’ll be sure to look for you! Registration must be made in advance. You can register on line, over the phone or by mail. There are several nice restaurants in the area so we can plan on getting together each evening and compare notes on the various storytellers we’ve heard. Here’s a link to the local restaurants. http://www.laurinburg.org/visitors/dining.aspx Admission to the main event is $30.00 with optional events of $5.00 and $20.00. See the website for details. April 19, 2012, Thursday – Grand Tour of Pittsboro! Start our day with a guided tour of the cats at the Carolina Tiger Rescue on Hanks Chapel Road at 10:30 am. This is a walking tour on rutted paths. It is not for the handicapped. The cost of that tour is $15.50. The tour lasts about 1½ to 2 hours depending on the number of questions!

Lunch will be at one of the major restaurants in Pittsboro – S & T Soda Shoppe, an old fashioned place with antique pharmacy shelves and lots of great ice cream. They have sandwiches but life is short, eat dessert first! Go to www.pittsboronc.net/sandtsodashoppe.html for a complete menu.

After lunch (around 2 pm) it’s off to the Starrlight Meadery, www.starrlightmead.com, that’s honey wine made locally and sold nationally. There will be a guided tour (free) of the winery and a mead tasting (cost $5 includes the glass). Learn how wine is made from local honey. Then head home!

Carpooling for those who need it. See Anita Kretchik for reservations.
