History at the Movies

The above title represents a program we present to our students each year here at David Crockett Middle School. It entails presenting motion pictures that reflect historical events that our students study. Most of our students have never seen these movies, they are surly considered “oldies” by them, yet provide significant cultural looks at how American’s saw themselves during different era’s in U. S. history. I show one movie per month, usually on a Thursday after school from 4 – 6 p.m. We have some popcorn etc. and make it a fun afternoon for the kids.

Listed below are the movies I propose to show to our students this year. These movies have to be G or PG rated. 2013-2014 School Year Sept. 19th Raiders of the Lost Ark* Oct. 24th Forrest Gump* Nov. 21st The Searchers* Dec. 12th It’s a Wonderful Life* Jan. 23rd 12 Angry Men* Feb. 20th All the Presidents Men* Mar. 25th To Kill a Mockingbird* April 22nd Band of Angels May 13th Empire of the Sun*

This presentation will cover a large historical range as well as offering a vast cultural look at the American scene over a 200 year period. This presentation includes 8 of America’s greatest movies as rated by the American Film Institute (*).

I look forward to your participation this school year.

Thanks,
