WATER QUALITY Lake Armington is among the top 2% cleanest lakes in NH. Many cottages get their household water directly from the lake. We enjoy swimming in it. So, please  Use biodegradable soap for home and laundry; keeps excess phosphorous from our lake water.  Keep soaps and shampoo out of the lake by bathing and doing laundry indoors, not in the lake.  Service septic systems annually, especially older systems.  Control duck and goose related droppings on shore, lawns, docks and floats by not feeding them.  Use lawn/garden fertilizers at least 75 feet from the lake shore, if you use them.

PREVENT INVASIVE WEEDS Lake Armington is free of invasive exotic weeds today, yet nearby water bodies are infected including the Connecticut River, Lakes Morey and Fairlee (VT), Lakes Winnipesaukee, Squam, and Newfound (NH). So please,  Check and clean your boat, kayak or canoe before you return here from an infected lake or river.  Work with your Lake Host at the boat ramp when you launch into Lake Armington.

WILDLIFE  Enjoy our loons but please do not disturb them or their nests. Back off if a loon calls out or flaps its wings.  When fishing, use gear that won’t harm loons or other wildlife, for example don’t use lead sinkers, keep hooks away from them, don’t leave fishing line behind in the water especially if tangled.

BOATING SAFETY – 150’ Rule In NH the 150’ Rule is: motor boats of 25 HP or more must maintain no wake/headway speed (6 mph) when within 150 feet of:  Shore  Docks, rafts, floats  Swimmers, permitted swimming areas  Mooring fields  Sailboats, kayaks, canoes, rowboats and other vessels. Some places on Lake Armington where headway speed is required, include the Narrows and most of the smaller (northern- most) end of the lake.

LOCAL CONDITIONS  On the water, be alert for unmarked rocks and submerged obstructions, especially near shore, in the Narrows and the smaller part of the lake.  All sounds travel readily and clearly in our lake environment, so please be courteous with your neighbors. Your family’s sounds, including dogs persistently barking and loud music, can ruin other’s enjoyment of the lake.

NH BOAT REGISTRATION AND OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS  Powered boats and sailboats over 12’ must be registered in NH and display bow numbers and stickers.  Boat operators must be at least 16 years of age and have a NH boater education certificate.  The closest NH-DMV is in Lebanon, NH, call 603- 448-5408.

WATER SKIING AND PERSONAL WATERCRAFT  Water skiing is allowed between sunup and sundown in NH, not at dusk or after dark.  A boat operator and a spotter/observer must be in the ski-boat. The spotter must be physically able to assist the person being towed behind the boat.  ALWAYS wear a personal flotation device (life jacket/PFD) when underway on the water.  Jetskis and Personal Watercraft are not permitted by law on Lake Armington.
