1. Call to Order: Dan called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m.

2. 4. Old Business  Nancy reviewed MnSCU Policies hand-outs; many new Curriculum Committee members and new leaders  Need to switch to new WIDS system / all CCO’s must be in new system o Donna Marzolf visited with Evan Peterson regarding the difficulty on making changes to CCO’s o Evan Peterson must set up instructor when requesting to create new CCO – he needs permission from the Dean in order to allow changes to be made  Check new WIDS site for new material

A. Multimedia Technology Program – Wes Taylor i. Program Proposal - REVISED ii. Multimedia Employment Outlook  Previously discussed in order to add to MnSCU List Serve / no comments or concerns were received  Can now submit request to initiate new program / requires signed articulation agreement (is in process) / MnSCU requires that all CCO’s be completed and approved (only 4 new courses are being created)  Watch for CCO’s 1st read via e-mail / 2nd read at January 18, 2013 meeting Motion To Approve: Jane Greathouse / 1st Read of 4 CCO’s by December 14, 2nd read at 1/18 meeting. 5. New Business A. 60/120 Credit Cap and Waiver i. Community Social Service - Wayne Whitmore  Info item: will lower program credits to 60; cutting 10 credits  Will process MnSCU redesign  Will take affect fall semester 2013 ii. Culinary Arts – W.C. Sanders for Jim Hanson  Info item: will process a Waiver to stay at 69 credits  Dropping a LAS credit, will incorporate a Marketing course; does not require MnSCU approval  Waiver needs to come to Curriculum Committee  Will take affect fall semester 2013 iii. Office Administration and Technology program – Jean Guerber for Becky Miller a. Administrative Assistant (Reduce From 68 Credits to 60 Credits) b. Legal Administrative Assistant (Reduce From 67 Credits to 60 Credits)  Info item: will process MnSCU redesigns  Will take affect fall semester 2014 iv. Accounting – Jane Greathouse for Doug Yentsch  Info item: will process Waiver to stay at current number of credits  Waiver needs to come to Curriculum Committee  Will take affect fall semester 2013  Supported by advisory committee due to number of classroom hours required for CPA testing v. Child Development – Lynn Michel  Info item: will process MnSCU Redesign to reduce from 66 credits to 60 credits

B. Child Development – Lynn Michel i. CDEV 2510  Change prerequisite to ‘instructor approval’  Needs to be in New WIDS format Motion To Approve: Nancy Genelin, contingent upon new WIDS format Motion Seconded: Linda Anderson / Approved Unanimously ii. C. Culinary Arts – Jim Hanson – JANUARY AGENDA i. MKT 1800 Introduction to Sales (Add Marketing Class) ii. Culinary Arts Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes (5/7/12)

D. Nursing – Candy Mortenson-Klimpel for Sandi Myers i. Info Item: add NURS 2350 course to be required by LN students who are admitted into the AS program with advanced standing, cannot be waived  1st semester of 8 credits is waived for RN program  2nd semester clinical course is waived for RN program  Need to add a clinical course and then only waive the 8 credits Curriculum Committee Meeting Minutes Friday, December 7, 2012, Page 3

 LPN students can get into the RN program by taking NURS 1910: transition course (offered every summer)  Will return to faculty for further discussion then will complete a program change form  Candy will meet with W.C. Sanders and Donna Marzolf

E. HVAC – Todd Huxford i. HVAC 2205 Coolers/Freezers Electrical Systems & Components ii. HVAC 2215 Coolers/Freezers Refrigeration Diagnostics & Operations  Needs to be in new WIDS format  Content is the same, but previously taught electrical for coolers and electrical for freezers separately, will now be one discussion for coolers and freezers; same concept for diagnostics and operations  Title change / rearranged curriculum  HVAC 2200 / 2210 remove courses from inventory (need to complete a course change form)  Spell check: ‘regarding’ in description Motion To Approve: Jane Greathouse / with new WIDS format and remove courses HVAC 2200/2210 from inventory (Course Change Form) to Dan Zielske and Laurie Oelslager Motion Seconded: Lisa Schickling / Approved Unanimously

F. Building Design & Energy Technology – Ryan Langemeier i. Name Change to Architectural Drafting and Design  Name change for marketing purposes, with advisory committee approval  Will change prefix and course numbers through Curriculum Committee – talk to Donna Marzolf  Needs new, updated program plan  Needs MnSCU program approval – check if number change has to be included Motion To Approve: Name change: Linda Anderson Motion Seconded: Renee Guyer / Approved Unanimously

G. Construction Field Supervision – Jeff Miller i. Name Change to Construction Supervision  Change in training, mission changes, etc.  More supervisory training; there is not always an on-site job superintendent  Current prefix is CFSU / will not change at this time  Need to notify articulation colleges of name change Motion To Approve: Cristen Olinger Motion Seconded: Jane Greathouse / Approved Unanimously

H. STEM / Physics – Jerry Soost 1st READ i. PHYS 212 Principles in Physics II  Part of biotechnology program  Needs to be in new WIDS format; needs class max and signatures on Course Change Form  Concern on prerequisite of ‘C’ or better in PHYS 211; will be enforced for all courses 2ND READ AT NEXT MEETING

I. Chemistry – Diann Marten 1st READ i. CHEM 220 Organic Chemistry I  New course  Biotechnology will use this as a prerequisite  Add number on CCO; add prerequisite in description; add goal area 3 2ND READ AT NEXT MEETING Curriculum Committee Meeting Minutes Friday, December 7, 2012, Page 4

J. Biotechnology – Renee Guyer 1st READ i. New AS Degree Program Form  Request by Biotechnology Steering Committee  Using courses that are in existence currently to create new degree  Genetics will start next fall  AS students will be required to move on to a 4-year program  Working on articulation agreement  Needs to go to MnSCU as ‘Intent’ / needs signed articulation agreement first  Check goal areas  Concern on prerequisites / are they prerequisites to the courses or to the program?  Remove prerequisite from program requirement ii. K. Computer Integrated Machining – Jon Morgan & Chris DeVries i. Program Plan  Name changes; credit changes  Program Redesign to MnSCU  1-year foundation diploma rather than certificate  Will process credit Waiver for fall 2013  Right Skills Now (RSN) is for first semester  Need to complete Course Change Form to delete courses ii. L. Anthropology – Dan Zielske 1st READ i. ANTH 121 Four Cultures  Neo-evolutions of culture  Spell check ‘prerequisites’  Reading 90 / ‘C’ or higher or Accuplacer reading comprehensive score of 78  Title is printed 2 times  No writing intensive requirements at SCC at this time – work with Guidelines Team  Service & learning requirements – work with Guidelines Team ii. ANTH 161 Indigenous Minnesota  Was asked to create Indian specific course  Fall semester only in order to tie into Service Learning with Mankato Powwow  Option to participate in a sweat lodge ceremony  Per core competencies: is this a goal area 9 course? (may be better as goal area 7) o Need to address up to 3 targets in goal area  Title is printed 2 times iii. MUSC 121 Class Guitar  Follow-up semester for students who are making guitars  Very basic guitar knowledge: tune, play scales, open chords, bar chords, simple chord progression, guitar solo  Title is printed 2 times  Can replace Music Theory  Move sentence: there will be individual instruction…. further up in description  Remove ‘of’ in description in 3rd sentence 2ND READ AT NEXT MEETING

M. Humanities – Kirstin Cronn-Mills / Jane Greathouse i. HUM 100 Critical Thinking  Change in description only  Needs to be in new WIDS format  Change needed per MnTC report Motion To Approve: Nancy Genelin Motion Seconded: Renee Guyer

Jane: many CCO’s show incorrect MnTC goal area on description and catalog, some CCO’s were never uploaded to catalog even though they were approved at previous Curriculum Committee meetins. Jane, Donna and Nancy will work together.

It was determined that the April meeting will be held on Monday, April 5, 2012.
