Upcoming Events  *NEW* UCSB Admissions & Personal Insights Essay Workshop – Join Courtney Good, UCSB Assistant Director for High School Services for a presentation on UC admissions and information on the new Person Insights essay prompts. Jacob Kantor from C-2 Education will also present information on the difference between the New SAT and ACT. Register for the free event to be held on Thursday, April 21st from 6:30-8:30pm in the MPR.

2. Volunteer

 S-M-A-R-T Mentoring & Tutoring The S-M-A-R-T program at Colina MS is looking for positive and committed tutors who can help provide an educational opportunity for all students regardless of the situation. Email [email protected] [email protected] or [email protected] for more information. Applications available in the CCC.

 Blayz.com – Find extracurricular programs, summer programs, internships and volunteer positions in your area. This free service can be customized to your preferences.

 Shelter Hope Pet Shop is looking for volunteers to help rescue dogs and cats. Come in person at the Janss Mall located across from Gold’s Gym. Contact [email protected] or call 818 453-5798.

3. Job Opportunities – Check the Jobs Board outside the CCC

 T.O. Student Tutoring is looking for tutors to help TOHS, middle and elementary school students. Pay is $20 per hour. Contact T.O. Student Tutoring 805 870-5352

 Peer Tutoring at The CCC is looking for tutors to help TOHS, middle and elementary school students. Pay is $20 per hour. See Mrs. Peters in the CCC for an application.

 Work Permits are required for paid employment for all students under the age of 18. Applications for Work Permits can be found at the CCC website. Be sure to print neatly and return completed forms to Mrs. Peters in the CCC and allow 24-48 hours for processing and approval from the Dean of Attendance.

Work Permits are job specific! You must have a job to get a Work Permit. Work Permits issued last school year or over the summer have now expired and new forms must be submitted. 4. SAT/ACT/PSAT Preparation:

*NEW* Tried & True Tutoring Juniors, get ready for the ACT with an ACT Weekend Intensive presented by Tried & True Tutoring. This 8 hour prep class will take place in the Lancer Library on Saturday, May 21st & Sunday, May 22nd and is perfect for those getting ready for the June ACT Exam. Conejo Valley Adult School SAT Prep Workshops – SAT Intensive Writing Prep (April 16th) SAT Prep (April 23th & 30th, must attend both) or ACT Math Prep (April 16th). Register at CVAE.

TO Peer Tutoring – The CCC has a list of teacher approved peer tutors for a variety of subjects. Fee is $20 per 1 hour session paid directly to the tutor at each session. Please email Mrs. Peters for more information.

5. College Information Presentations:

College visits will resume in the Spring. Check Naviance for a schedule and to sign up for a presentation.

Bradley University & U Mass Lowell – Monday, April 25th 11am College Preview Days – Colleges frequently have on campus preview days for freshman or workshops held locally or on their campuses. Check the websites of colleges you would like to know more about. NEW* College Wise, a blog by Kevin McMullin – Kevin Mullin, founder of College Wise, has advice for students and parents thinking about college. This post advises about “How to Negotiate a Better Financial Aid Package.” You may also subscribe to College Wise! 6. Scholarships :

FAFSA! Your first step to receiving financial aid for college! Every Senior and his/her parents should apply for FAFSA! Check out why Time.com says even families with high incomes should apply! It’s not too late to apply. *NEW* There are many scholarship search websites to find scholarships you may qualify for. Be careful when filling out information. The application should not have a fee associated with it. Check out the Scholarship page on the CCC website for a list of scholarship websites and go online to www.fastweb.com or www.scholarship.com . SallieMae helps you plan for college with interactive tools such as College Planning Toolbox, College Planning Calculator and Scholarship Search. Visit SallieMae for more information.

7. Are You 18? Or will you turn 18 this year? Then you may be eligible to vote! Take part in the greatest of American traditions and exercise your right to have a say in your future. You may register online or stop by the CCC to pick up a Voter Registration form. Young men between the ages of 18 and 25 must register with the Selective Service System. Visit the Selective Service System for more information. 8. Summer Vacation is only 58 days away! Are you looking for summer enrichment or academic activities? Engineering Innovation – Johns Hopkins University @ CLU – The Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins is partnering with Engineering Innovation and CLU to present a summer course that includes college level lectures, hands-on labs, projects, guest speakers in the engineering field and more. Must have A’ & B’s in high school math and science. Apply at Johns Hopkins or see the flyer on the CCC website.

The Ronald Reagan Student Leadership Summer Program – The Ronald Reagan Student Leadership Program returns this summer at the Ronald Reagan Library. The one week sessions be June 20th with 6 weeks to choose from. Learn about the power of communication, optimism and informed decision making through lessons and activities that are student driven. Small group interactions, 1:1 mentoring and public speaking are some of the opportunities available. Visit the Ronald Reagan Student Leadership Program for more information.

Teradyne 2016 Summer Engineering Workshop (SEW) – Flyer available in the CCC or on the website. Camp Kinneret offers a summer Camp Internship for Leadership Training (CILT) Program. CILTs work with senior staff member and an assigned camp group with weekly group meetings and support. Minimum 4 weeks commitment out of 9 weeks. More information can be found at http://www.campkinneret.com/work-at-camp/10th-11th-12th-graders/. Camp Keystone needs energetic, responsible, talented and fun-loving camp counselors this summer. The camp has a giant waterslide, 3 zip-lines, a ropes course, horseback riding and more! Positions include junior counselors (ages 15-16) assistant counselors (17) and senior counselors (18+). 9. Military Representatives and Opportunities Military representatives visit the CCC each week during lunch on regular school days to meet with students interested in college scholarships, career opportunities and enlistment. Stop by the CCC for more information.
