Oakland, CA – The elegant and intimate Calvin Simmons Theatre, renowned for its exquisite chandeliers, gold leaf detail, art deco influenced seating, and its near perfect acoustics, has added an Apogee system to its detailed setting.

The Calvin Simmons Theatre's staff was looking for a new sound system that was versatile enough to cover all the different types of shows held in the theatre. Accommodating over 1900 people, the theatre is home to concerts, shows, seminars, plays and assemblies. Apogee offered help with the system design and planning, as well as the commissioning, to give the theatre the system it needed at a cost within budget. After visiting another theatre with an all-

The Apogee products used in this permanent installation included: three AE-5 loudspeakers, three AE-5NC loudspeakers, and two AE-12 subwoofers all of which were deployed as a central cluster. Two additional AE-5 loudspeakers were installed in the sides of the proscenium for L & R fill. Apogee's AE-Series speakers are processor-based, offering brilliant performance and proven longevity. The system's processors are two Apogee D-1 Digital

Loudspeaker Controllers that also provide delay for the proscenium speakers and parametric equalization for the complete system. Four Apogee DA-800 Digitally Controlled Amplifiers drive the speakers.

System designer and lead installer, Michael Beyl of Swanson Sound Service, stated, "The

Apogee system is able to handle a wide range of events and musical styles with excellent results. I get the power and coverage I need for this large room from a relatively small cluster."

Beyl went on to say, "Apogee's CORREQT™ (Computer Optimized Room Resonant

Equalization Technique) process was used to tune and align the system. CORREQT gives the theatre optimum equalization and precise delay times, with excellent musicality."
