DIVISIONS DESCRIPTION

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BEFORE SUBMITTING. YOU (AS CAPTAIN) ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING ALL THE INFORMATION WITHIN THIS PACKET And FEES INCURRED BY YOUR TEAM!

HOW TO REGISTER…

Any registration without appropriate payment will not be accepted. We accept MasterCard or VISA only. American Express or Discover cannot be used. If you are paying by check, your team space is not guaranteed until we have that check in hand. Please be sure to read this entire letter.

To reserve a team space:  A minimum $200 deposit and completed registration form reserves your team space.  If the league has reached its initial capacity, your team will be placed on a waitlist until a spot becomes available. Failure to register at least one month prior to the start date may result in loss of team space to a team on the waitlist.

Early Registration Discount: Sign up your team at least one month prior to the start date and SAVE $50 off the team fee.

Team Fee Balance: Within 1 week of league start date and prior to first game times being sent out, your team’s remaining balance (not including non-member fees) will be charged. If paying by check, payment must be received one week prior to start or credit card provided will be charged. Teams having not paid their team fee will not be included on the schedule.

Individual payments for team fees: Individual payments for a team will not be accepted unless collected by the captain and all sent together. Individuals calling to pay their portion of the team fee will not be taken. Entire team fee (including non-member fees) is the responsibility of the captain. Payments from captains will be accepted in the form of cash, check(s), and/or singular credit card. We do realize how difficult it can be to collect from teammates in advance. If you collect individual checks from them in advance, but do not have them all at time of deadline, send in what you have and put the remainder on credit card or separate check. To ease your burden, we do recommend collecting from your teammates prior to the league. This way, you have a commitment from them, and you do not have to front all of the money. You should have knowledge of who your non-members are prior to the start of the league. Make sure to collect the non-member fee from these players when collecting their team portion.

What if team fees are not paid on time: Failure to pay fees prior to league may result in the team being dropped to waitlist status and replaced by first team on waitlist. If no teams are on the waitlist, teams with an outstanding team fee balance will not receive their first game time until their balance is paid in full. Once the full season schedule has been set, unpaid teams will lose their opportunity to play in the session.

ONCE YOUR REGISTRATION HAS BEEN PROCESSED…

TEAM CONFIRMATION INFORMATION Upon confirmation of registering a team, the team captain will receive 3 separate emails.

a.i. Team confirmation: This will include an attachment that has basic details and timetables for the league

a.ii. A payment receipt: You will receive an e-mail receipt for any and all payments made. a.ii.1. If your team is waitlisted, the “Total Paid” section will say $0. This means that you have not been charged, and will not be unless your team has been officially accepted into the league.

a.iii. Team Roster Link: Captains have full control of your roster up until the roster deadline. You will be sent a unique link and password to log into your team’s roster. You will need the following information for every player so that we can electronically confirm their membership status. If a player has participated in a BSSC activity before, you can simply enter their email address and the rest of their information will auto-populate. If a player is brand new to BSSC, the following information is required: a.iii.1. First and last name a.iii.2. Email address a.iii.3. Birth date a.iii.4. Phone number a.iii.5. Gender a.iii.6. Membership status

Spelling and accuracy are important; otherwise the system will view them as a non-member and you will be charged a non-member fee for that person. Our advice is to send a request out to your teammates for this info sooner rather than waiting until the last minute.

You can add/remove players as necessary until the roster lock date (listed on your roster submission page). On that roster lock date, captain will be charged a non-member fee for each player listed that is not a BSSC member ($25 each). Players that become BSSC members after being added to the roster will have their status updated automatically, as long as it occurs BEFORE the roster lock date.

PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THE “Team Roster Login Information” EMAIL AS YOU WILL NEED THE PASSWORD PROVIDED WITHIN IT TO MAKE ANY ROSTER CHANGES.

NON-MEMBER FEE INFORMATION

Non-member fees are charged after the third week of the season (this will not necessarily be after your team’s third game)

1) Non-member fees: Rosters are to be submitted using the online link mentioned above (failing to submit a roster can result in your team being removed from the league and/or charged the maximum number of non-member fees). Rosters will be electronically checked against BSSC’s database to verify members/non-members and captains will be notified of the membership status of their players at the first game. Payment for non-member fees will be processed at the conclusion of the 3rd week of the league (this is not necessarily your team’s third game). At this time, any outstanding balances will be charged to the credit card provided. If no roster is given, a maximum non-member fee will be charged (15) and the team could be eliminated from the league.

2) Membership status – To avoid the $25 non-member fee, a player must be a member at the time of the roster lock. A person’s membership status can be found on the roster that is sent out to the league on the first night of play. For BSSC members, the email address you provide on your team roster MUST match the email address the person has on file with BSSC. a. Memberships that expire during the session: If they do not renew before the roster deadline (By renewing for $50, it will extend their membership for one full year from the present expiration date), the captain will be charged the $25 non-member fee. b. Non-members wishing to join BSSC: To avoid the non-member fee, a player must join BSSC ($65 for 1 year) during the first 3 weeks of the session. Players that become a member AFTER the 3rd week of the session are still responsible for paying the captain for the non-member fee. c. Roster changes are allowed up to the 3rd week of the session.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1) Forfeit Policy –

Having to forfeit is not fun for anyone. Everyone wants to play. No one wants to miss out on a game due to a forfeit. All leagues have a policy allowing you to pick up players from within the league as long as you have a minimum number of players. See “Picking up players Policy” for your specific league for more information about this. Even if you cannot do this, showing up with half a team and mixing up teams with your opponent and playing a scrimmage is much better than not getting to play at all. If you do have to forfeit, however, please note the following policy. Any forfeit fees will be charged to the credit card on file for the team the next business day. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!.

These funds will be provided to 1) the team that received the forfeit as compensation for their missed games and any further inconveniences and 2) the game official(s) assigned to that game.

Greater than 24 hours before game time or before 2pm No financial penalties on Friday for Weekend leagues… Less than 24 hours before game time or after 2pm on $50 forfeit fee (given to opponent) + Friday for Weekend leagues where opponents can be both teams’ ump fees ($40) = $90 reached before arriving at the field… Less than 24 hours before game time or after 2pm on $50 forfeit fee + $50 late notice fee (both given to opponent) Friday for Weekend leagues where opponents CANNOT + both teams’ ump fees ($40) = $140 be reached before arriving at the field… $50 forfeit fee + $50 late notice fee (both given to opponent) + both teams’ ump fees ($40) = $140, plus possible exclusion No Show without any notice… from league playoffs. Multiple no-shows may result in removal from league At the field with not enough players, both teams’ ump fees = $40 but still able to scrimmage…

A full version of the policy can be found here… Forfeit and Picking Up Players Policies - Boston Ski And Sports Club

2) Refund Policy –

a) Greater than 21 days prior to start of league a refund of amount paid will be given, less $50 service charge. b) Within 21 days of start of league... NO REFUND will be given unless league is full and a suitable replacement can be made. If replaced, a refund will be given, less a minimum $50 service charge.

3) Sportsmanship Policy –

A primary goal of the Boston Ski & Sports Club is to provide its participants with a fun and pleasurable sporting experience. This experience begins with the arrival at the field/gym/court and continues through the game and subsequent post game activities. We recognize that the nature of sports in and of itself is competitive. Therefore, we have established rules, which dictate how a game is to be played. These rules include both on field and off field behavior. There is more to sports than winning and losing. Participation in sports is an experience. The benefits of fair play, exercise, teamwork, and camaraderie that exist in our sports leagues far outweigh any win or loss that may appear on a Schedule and Standings page. There is neither a time, nor a place in any BSSC sports league for any individual(s) to behave in an unsportsmanlike manner. No matter what the outcome of a play or a game, good sportsmanship MUST be observed at all times.

All persons, participating in a Boston Ski & Sports Club (BSSC) sanctioned sports activity, should be aware of and must adhere to the following policy.

In its simplest terms, a good sportsman is defined as someone who not only enjoys playing the game, but enhances the enjoyment of those around them, be it teammates, competitors, officials, or spectators. Any action that detracts from this enjoyment is deemed unsportsmanlike. Therefore, any participant who attempts to or intends to lessen the enjoyment of others will be considered in violation of this policy.

Examples of unsportsmanlike activities include, but are not limited to…  verbal or physical abuse of fellow participants  intimidation / aggressive play  hostile language or action directed toward a BSSC game official, a BSSC employee, a BSSC representative or any other game participant

Violators of this policy can expect to be immediately ejected from the game and be required to leave the playing area in a timely fashion.

Subsequent penalties may include, but are not limited to:  Suspension  Expulsion from the league  A ban from further BSSC activities

The degree to which a person is reprimanded is at the sole discretion of BSSC. It is our sincere hope that this policy will be an effective deterrent to poor behavior and help to ensure the continuing existence of fun and safe leagues.

4) Division Placement –

The A level are the “advanced” teams and above average intermediate teams. It is not ex MLB players in this level, but these players have been playing for most their lives, make every game, know the rules, etc. You probably have a few ex college players, a pitcher with an accurate arm, players that can make a double play, hit the cutoff man at second and know when the infield fly rule is in effect. These teams probably see the league as a sport rather than a game and enjoy a hard game even if they lose.

The B level is probably the TRUE Intermediate teams. Most of the rosters are good/average players but the team isn’t as good when the best player is absent. Some may have played in high school, or are just decent athletes but you may also have some rusty players or those that want to play with some friends but aren’t too concerned with the outcome and may miss a few games.

The C Level is for lower intermediate teams. They tend to have 1/2 of the rostered players that just want to have fun and the other 1/2 that really want to win the whole thing. You may be a team that has a roster of 20 but you average only 12 at each game due to work or familial obligations. You enjoy the game and it’s fun to win but many on the team are looking forward to having a drink with friends afterwards.

The D level is a recreational level at its MOST basic (beginner) level. No one should really care what their record is at the end of the season in fact most your players may not even check the website for standings or even report a win. No one should ever be in a situation to yell at an umpire or opposing player. You probably win only half of these games and if you played D before and won 8 or more games (out of 12) your team should probably move up.

Please remember BSSC reserves the right to move any team up or down based on past performance.

5) Scheduling Requests / No-Play Dates –

Below is a list of dates during the 2017 season on which no BSSC sports leagues will be scheduled for games. All other calendar dates are subject to having games scheduled. Please keep this list in mind and use the Scheduling Requests section of the registration form to indicate any other scheduling requests for the upcoming session. Please remember Scheduling Requests are NOT guaranteed.

April - 16th (Easter), 17th (Patriot’s Day) May - 14th (Mother’s Day), 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th (Memorial Day) July - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th (Independence Day) September - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th (Labor Day) November - 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th (Thanksgiving)

6) Umpire Payments – Teams are responsible for paying $20 per game, in cash, to the umpires prior to each game (including playoffs). Failure to do so may result in teams forfeiting their game.
