Miss Southwestern Region Phi Beta Sigma Pageant

Categories

The Interview The interview will take place prior to the pageant earlier in the day. The attire for this category is a business suit. Designated interview times will be determined upon arrival. Please check in at the registration table when you arrive.

Presentation—Shades of Blue Sportswear Each contestant will be presented to the judges and audience with an introduction speech about themselves and career goals. Shades of Blue will be the theme of the category. Please consider the fraternity’s color of royal blue when designing you outfit. The attire will be non-active sportswear (casual sportswear). Sixty percent of your outfit must be blue.

Talent Competition Contestants will perform a talent of their choice with a minimum of 5 minutes but not to exceed 7 minutes. Please provide a description of talent and any props needed.

Swimwear Competition Contestants will model a one-piece bathing suit with accessories of your choice. The color will be the choice of the contestant. All bathing suits should be in a tasteful manner.

Evening Gown Competition Contestants are required to wear a FORMAL evening gown in this category.

Question and Response Contestants will be asked impromptu questions. Miss Southwestern Region Phi Beta Sigma Pageant

Judging System The Miss Southwestern Region Phi Beta Sigma Pageant 2011 judging system is designed to promote diversity, individuality, and overall achievement among all contestants. Judges score the individual contestants immediately following each phase of the competition. Contestants are scored totally on a 1-100 point scale in whole numbers within each category (more than one contestant may receive the same score). There is one panel of judges for the entire competition. All judges have been educated about the Miss Southwestern Region Phi Beta Sigma Pageant 2011 judging system and represent a variety of professional sectors within their communities. Contestants may receive an additional 1-5 points (maximum 5) for the sale of advertisements in excess of the $600 minimum advertisements sales.

THE MISS SOUTHWESTERN REGION PHI BETA SIGMA PAGEANT IS A NON DISCRIMANATORY EVENT OPEN TO ALL FEMALES REGARDLESS OF:  Race and/or National Origin  Religion  Undergraduate-Graduate Classification  Organization affiliation

Contestants must NOT be older than 25 years old

Entry fee is NON-REFUNDABLE

All Photos are the property of PHI BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY, INCORPORATED.

All contestants are required to sell a minimum of $600.00 in advertisements. 35 points will be deducted from the final score if $600 in advertisements is not sold.

I, ______, have received and read a copy of the application packet with all of the rules, guidelines, requirements, and pageant score sheet and hereby agree to the rules, terms and conditions of the Miss Southwestern Regional, Phi Beta Sigma Pageant.  I, also, agree that the decision of the judges is FINAL and I am entitled to see a copy of my performance results.  I further understand that if I am chosen for the Miss Southwestern Regional, Phi Beta Sigma, I must be unwed and without child(ren).  Furthermore, I must remain unwed and without child(ren) during my reign.  I further understand that I am NOT an agent for the Miss Southwestern Region Phi Beta Sigma Pageant, and I am not authorized to act on behalf of the fraternity other than permitted in my capacity as a contestant or the Miss Southwestern Region Phi beta Sigma Pageant if selected.  I further understand any violation of the pageant rules, regulations, and/or failure to serve in the capacity, as the Miss Southwestern Regional, Phi Beta Sigma if selected, may be ground for removal or the termination of my reign. This disclaimer must accompany entry fee and photo.

The Application Entry Fee is $50.00 (non-refundable). Make checks payable to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Only checks and money orders are allowed. *The Entry Fee is due the same date as application.

No Fire, No Water, No Animal Acts permitted.

Contestants should check in by 3:00 P.M. on April 7, 2011. *Contestants arriving after designated time will have five points deducted from final score.

Rehearsals are MANDATORY and all contestants are required to attend.

In the event of a tie, a TIEBREAKER QUESTION will be asked.

Please be courteous and professional to all fellow contestants.

SELL A MINIMUM OF $600.00 of ADVERTISEMENTS FOR PROGRAM SOUVENIR JOURNAL. Ad Prices: Full Page $100.00, ½ Page $75.00, ½ Page $50.00; Business Card $25.00, Patron $15.00.

35 POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM FINAL SCORE IF MINIMUM ADS ARE NOT SOLD. Proceeds to benefit National Scholarship programs.

Contestants must be unwed and without child(ren) at the time of the pageant. If chosen, she must

remain unwed and without child(ren) during her reign.

Contestants must NOT be older than 25 years of age. Summary of Awards

 Represent the Southwestern Region at the 2011 Miss International Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Pageant in Atlanta, Georgia July 2011  Represent at Miss Phi Beta Sigma Pageants throughout the Southwestern Region as schedule permits  Serve as hostess at fraternity events and projects  Assist in the promotion of fraternity events

1 st Runner Up…Trophy and Flowers; will assume the title of Miss Phi Beta Sigma Southwestern Region if reigning winner violates any of the specified rules as stated in the disclaimer for the above said position.
