UCF Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Course Assessment Report COP 4934 Computer Science Senior Design I Spring 2015

The following reports the course learning outcomes, expected performance criteria, mapping of the course outcomes to the program educational outcomes, assessment measures, assessment results, and reflective statements.

1) Course outcome: CO-COP4934-1 states that “Students will be evaluated based on their performance on the final design document. The outcome shall be met by 70% of students scoring 70 points or higher on their final design documentation.” Performance criteria: 70 points or higher on the Final Design Document for Senior Design I. Student outcomes: SO-CS-04 Assessment measures: 70% of students scoring 70 points or higher for the course outcome. Assessment result:

COP 4934-Section 1: CO-COP4934-1 was measured for the Spring 2015semester among 20 students. All 20 students met the threshold for passing this outcome, which represents 100% that meets the performance criteria. The high score was 100 points and the low was 75 points.

In previous review cycle 2014, this course was not assessed.

*Note: these reasoning for increase or decrease of the percentages compared with the previous cycle should also be included collectively in the reflective statement at the end.

2) Course outcome: CO-COP4934-2 states that “Students will be evaluated based on their performance on relevant questions on Quiz 1. The outcome shall be met by 70% of students scoring 70% or higher on relevant assignments and test questions.” Performance criteria: 70% score on Quiz #1, questions 2-5 and 8-10. Student outcomes: SO-CS-05 Assessment measures: 70% of students with a passing score of 70% or higher for the course outcome. Assessment result:

COP 4934-Section 1: CO-COP4934-2 was measured for the Spring 2015semester among 20 students. 19 students met the threshold for passing this outcome, which represents 95% that meets the performance criteria.

In previous review cycle 2014, this course was not assessed.

3) Course outcome: CO-COP4934-3 states that “Students will be evaluated based on their performance on the final design document. The outcome shall be met 70% of students scoring 70 points or higher on their final design documentation.” Performance criteria: 70 points or higher on the Final Design Document for Senior Design I. Student outcomes: SO-CS-06 Assessment measures: 70% of students scoring 70 points or higher for the course outcome.

Assessment result:

COP 4934-Section 1: CO-COP4934-3 was measured for the Spring 2015semester among 20 students. All 20 students met the threshold for passing this outcome, which represents 100% that meets the performance criteria.

In previous review cycle 2014, this course was not assessed.

4) Course outcome: CO-COP4934-4 states that “Students will be evaluated on their performance on the Broader Impacts section of their final design document and on relevant quiz questions. The outcome shall be met by 70% of students scoring 70% or higher on relevant assignments and test questions.” Performance criteria: 70% score on Broader Impacts section of final design document Student outcomes: SO-CS-07 Assessment measures: 70% of students with a passing score of 70% or higher for the course outcome. Assessment result:

COP 4934-Section 1: CO-COP4934-4 was measured for the Spring 2015semester among 20 students. All 20 students met the threshold for passing this outcome, which represents 100% that meets the performance criteria. All teams scored 10 out of 10 points on their Broader Impacts section.

In previous review cycle 2014, this course was not assessed.

5) Course outcome: CO-COP4934-5 states that “Students will be evaluated based on their performance on quiz questions relating to entrepreneurship and careers in computer science. This shall be met by 70% of students scoring 70% or higher on relevant assignments and test questions.” Performance criteria: 70% score on Quiz #1, questions 1, 6, and 7, and the entire Quiz #2. Student outcomes: SO-CS-08 Assessment measures: 70% of students with a passing score of 70% or higher for the course outcome. Assessment result:

COP 4934-Section 1: CO-COP4934-5 was measured for the Spring 2015semester among 20 students. 19 students met the threshold for passing this outcome, which represents 95% that meets the performance criteria.

In previous review cycle 2014, this course was not assessed.

Reflective statements:

RS-1. Successes: ANS: The performance criteria were achieved for all course outcomes.

RS-2. Lessons Learned: ANS: This was the first semester for assessment so the largest lesson learned was to adjust my record keeping to make it easier to assess certain outcomes going forward.

RS-3. Proposed Improvements: ANS: I am continuing to revise lectures on Professional Ethics to discuss current events in online security and privacy. This will be implemented in 2015-16.

RS-4. Dependencies and Impact on Other Courses: ANS: All content revised here will naturally affect COP 4935 Senior Design II.

RS-5. Overall Summary Statement (reflect on closing of the loop in assessment process) ANS: This is the first semester for assessment of this course. Based on trends going forward and feedback from students, I will adjust content in Senior Design I as necessary. *Note: These reasonings for increase or decrease of the percentages compared with the previous cycle should also be included collectively here.
