Scholarship

Overview:

OHA Ochoco Chapter will be awarding one scholarship for the upcoming school year to the most deserving and well rounded applicant. We at OHA pride ourselves on our involvement with the outdoor recreation community, as well as furthering the involvement of the next generation to better protect and strengthen our chapter’s core beliefs as a whole. The Ochoco Chapter is looking for the next influential, young outdoor enthusiast to represent our chapter and the OHA as they further their education at the next level.

Eligibility: Applicant must: 1. Be a graduating high school senior planning to pursue a degree at an accredited institution of higher education as a full-time student or a college student returning to pursue a degree. 2. Must be pursuing a degree in Biology, Natural Resources or Fish & Wildlife Conservation & Management or a degree that aligns with OHA’s mission statement. 3. Have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. 4. Be a current Crook County resident. 5. Be a current OHA member or a child or grandchild of a current OHA member. 6. Requirements: Please provide the following documents to ensure a complete application: 1. Completed Application Form 2. Official High School Transcript or College transcript 3. Two Letters of Recommendation 3.a.One Personal Reference: non relative and non school official 3.b.One Professional Reference: non relative, can include school official 4. Essay: 1-3 pages. Choose one of the following. 4.a.Explain the role of hunting in wildlife management. 4.b.What can be done to improve the image of hunters and hunting? 4.c.What is your view on forest practices and their effect on hunting? 4.d.What are the concerns facing hunters and non-hunting outdoors people?

If awarded this scholarship, we request: 1. Your attendance at our annual Dinner Banquet in February 2019 as our scholarship winner. 2. You provide your college acceptance letter for verification of college enrollment and attendance. Funding will be paid directly to your institute of higher learning. 3. This scholarship must be used in the school year following receipt of the scholarship. Any unused portion of the scholarship will be returned to or retained by the Ochoco Chapter Oregon Hunters Association Scholarship Fund.
