On the evening of 22.04.2009, Mr. Pradeep Khanna and his wife Smt. Bela were out for an evening walk in the vicinity of Uday Park. As soon as the couple crossed them, the duo came along on their bike and the pillion rider snatched the gold chain of Smt. Bela. She fell down on the road and got frightened of the whole episode. Her husband was also stunned for a while, but somehow, screamed out for help. An auto was passing through the same way and the auto driver namely Prashant witnessed the act of the snatchers. He started chasing both the desperados. The snatchers drove off towards Andrews Ganj flyover at a very high speed. In that haste, the rider lost his balance, banged with the central verge of the road just opposite Ansal Plaza and fell down. Instead of taking their bike, they stood up, crossed the road and jumped into the elevated boundaries of Ansal Plaza. On the other side, the chasing auto-driver Prashant continued keeping eyes on the snatchers and took ‘U’ Turn ahead. For a couple of minutes, he could not see either of them and after covering some distance, Prashant reached near Petrol Pump, situated next to Ansal Plaza. There, he saw a boy sitting near a tree with a wounded hand. He went to him and ensured whether the boy was the same snatcher or someone else. On seeing the driver coming towards him, the boy started running, but by that time he had reached there and overpowered the desperate snatcher, who even allured him and offered him some money against his safe release. But, when the driver remained adamant, he threatened him of dire consequences. Eventually he caught him and handed over to the police, who arrived on the spot on receipt of a PCR call. The police recovered the snatched gold chain from the accused and the motor cycle used in commission of crime.

Regarding this incident, a case, vide FIR No. 112/09 u/s 356/379/411/34 IPC has been registered at P.S. Defence Colony, New Delhi and the investigation was taken up.

The sustained interrogation of this desperate snatcher revealed that he hails from a low profile family living in clusters of Trilok Puri. He quit his studies after just 7th standard. He has been working as a helper with a small factory, which makes speakers and used to earn about Rs. 3,000/- per month. About 3-4 months ago, he came into contact with one Naushad, who is allegedly involved in a number of criminal cases (as disclosed by Anwar). Anwar wanted to make quick money. Hence, he joined Naushad and indulged in crime. Before they could flee from the spot after committing the crime, the auto-driver Prashant exhibited exemplary courage and bravery and caught Anwar.
