North Carolina READY End-of-Grade (EOG) Mathematics Assessments

The following questions and responses supplement the information in the test specifications. This FAQ will be updated as more information is available. Please note that test coordinators will have full details about the administration of these assessments.

2. What are the types of questions on the assessments?

Each assessment, including Grades 3–8 End-of-Grade (EOG) and Algebra I / Integrated I End-of- Course (EOC), has both calculator active and calculator inactive sections. Questions for EOG grades 3 and 4 are all multiple-choice questions.

Grades 5 through 8 EOG assessments and the Algebra I / Integrated I EOC assessment will include some constructed-response questions (also referred to as grid-ins) in the calculator inactive section. Questions on the calculator active section are all multiple-choice. All of the constructed-response questions have a single numeric answer. Students taking a paper-pencil version of the test will grid in the answers, while students testing on line will enter the answer in a text box.

5. How much time do students have for the assessment?

For the EOC Algebra I / Integrated I general assessment, the estimated testing time is 3 hours; the maximum time without accommodations is 4 hours.

For the EOC Algebra I / Integrated I NCEXTEND2 assessment, the estimated testing time is 150 minutes. Following the Assessment Guide, students taking the NCEXTEND2 assessment may have additional time if they are engaged and working.

For EOG general mathematics assessments, the estimated testing time is 3 hours; the maximum time without accommodations is 4 hours.

For EOG NCEXTEND2 mathematics assessments, the estimated testing time is 3 hours. Following the Assessment Guide, students taking the NCEXTEND2 assessment may have additional time if they are engaged and working.

6. Do any of the assessments extend past one day?

Both the EOG and EOC mathematics assessments are to be given in one day, unless the student has documented special needs requiring accommodation, such as Multiple Testing Sessions.

7. How do students proceed from the calculator inactive section to the calculator active section?

Students will take the calculator inactive section before the calculator active section. As each student completes the calculator inactive section, he or she will request a calculator from the

8. For Algebra I / Integrated I, which standards are assessed?

As with the EOG assessments, the Algebra I / Integrated I EOC is aligned to the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). 9. Where can sample questions be obtained?

A released form for the Algebra I / Integrated I assessment is available at: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/testing/releasedforms

Released forms will be provided as soon as possible for EOG assessments.

10. What assessment(s) are required for eighth-grade students who take high school mathematics?

Eighth-grade students taking one of the first-year high school mathematics courses (Algebra I, Integrated I, or NC Local Option Math I) are required to take both the grade 8 EOG assessment and the Algebra I / Integrated I EOC assessment.

11. Are there other students who will be required to take the EOC mathematics assessment?

For federal reporting, by the end of their tenth-grade year, students must have a test score for either Algebra I (taken before the 2012-2013 school year) or Algebra I / Integrated I. In particular, this affects current tenth grade students who were enrolled in Integrated Math I in 2011–2012 and do not have an Algebra I EOC test score.

Students enrolled in North Carolina Local Option Math I will also be required to take the Algebra I / Integrated I assessment.

Due to the transition to Common Core State Standards and in order to include as many students as possible as participants in federal accountability reporting, students enrolled in Integrated Math II, Local Option CC Math II, and Local Option CC Math III must be administered the appropriate EOC assessment

12. What manipulatives will be available to students?

Students will be provided with blank paper and graph paper. They will not be permitted to use rulers or protractors.
