A Note from Your President

OCTOBER, 2012

A Note from your President :

Dear Sisters: Thank you to all the ladies and men who worked our last Texas Hold Em on Sept 21, 22, & 23rd. We made a profit of $950.40 after taking the $150.00 licensing fee and 10% Convention Fund donation out. Our next tournament in October 1st thru the 4th and we have all the 6-10pm shifts covered but we still need help from 10-2am. This is an easy job so if you don’t have to get up and go to work the next morning please consider working a shift! October will find many of us busy attending the LAOH Elizabeth Fagan Chocolate Affair on the 7th, the AOH/LAOH Souper Bowl on the 14th and ending with our own AOH Stephen Walsh Charity Ball on the 20th. Mary Underhill and Chris Scanlan have been chosen as Hibernians of the Year. Please get your tickets today from either Jim O’Kelly or myself and show your support for the AOH/LAOH, Mary and Chris, and of course Christ the King Parish, recipient of this year’s ball. They are only $45 and we are very excited to be in a new location this year, St. Aidan’s Activity Center, and I know it will be a great time for all! If you haven’t taken your Degrees yet you have the opportunity on the 27th. The Rose Kennedy Division will be hosting the St. Brigid Degree Team at our hall. Candidates and Observers should plan on being at the hall between 11:15-11:30. There will be a charge of $10 for Degrees, $5 to observe and $8 for lunch. The deadline to sign up is October 13th. I will have a sign up sheet at the October meeting. In November we will be starting off with the Pallotine Fathers Dinner Dance on the 2nd, the UIS Memorial Mass on the 4th at St. Patrick’s Church @ 11:00am, followed by the AOH/LAOH State Memorial Mass on the 11th @ 2:30pm at the AOH Hall. Usually we also have the LAOH State Famine Walk in late October or early November but due to conflicts with dates there will be a Non-Walk this year only. The LAOH State Board is asking each division to collect at least $50 in pledges and to collect non-perishable food items, paper products, or whatever to be given to a local food bank, nursing home or whatever charity we choose in honor of the Women in Ireland. We will collect this at our October meeting and decide where will donate it at this meeting. Don’t forget the LAOH Rose Kennedy Dinner and Variety Show on the 10th. We hope to have a sell out crowd! Chris Ayotte (aka Elvis) will be back to entertainment us with a collection of tunes and impersonations. Get your tickets today from Mary Underhill or myself. Dinner and the show is only $35! We will close out the month with an amazing concert here at the hall on Sunday November 25th. The WolfeTones will be here and the music starts at 5:00-7:30pm. You don’t want to miss this great chance to see them here at the hall. Get your tickets early from the AOH Building Corporation asap! Please keep Patricia Gingrich Collins and her family in your prayers. Her husband Cornelius passed away September 17th after a long battle with cancer. Also the family of Peggy Gray, on the sudden passing of her husband Gary. Dear Lord, may they rest in peace, Amen.
