Notes from the President

 HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY - HIP HIP HOORAY! We are fully approved for all the handicapped accessibility efforts we have made. Long time coming, but definitely worth the effort. WE COULD STILL USE SOME VOLUNTEERS TO HELP STAIN THE RAMP AND DECK COMPONENTS. If you’re able to help, call Renie @ 724-396-6699 or email [email protected] ALSO, PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE BLACKSTOP WALKWAY THAT CONNECTS THE HANDICAPPED LOT TO THE OLD PART OF THE BUILDING. By parking too far into the gravel area to the right of the building you defeat the purpose of having this walkway. Those needing this lot should not be forced to maneuver their canes and walkers on uneven surfaces. Those of us who are fortunate enough to be able to walk easily should keep in mind that there may be a day that we need this accommodation ourselves and would appreciate this same consideration that I am asking for now.

 LANDSCAPING COMMITTEE – We are now ready for the icing on the cake for the exterior of the facility. ANY AND ALL WHO CAN HELP IN THE PLANTING AND MULCHING AND ALL THAT FUN STUFF, please get in touch with either Joe Schildkamp, Rose Sovyak, Ed Gross, Helen Thorne, Sue White, or Pat Majcher as to your availability.

 NEA SENIOR CITIZEN SESSIONS –

STILL NEED HELPERS FOR THE FOLLOWING DATES: June 16 - Ribbon woven berry baskets

June 30 – Bas Relief pins and pendants

July 28 – Candle creations

August 18 – Kaleidoscopes

September 22 – Tie dyed tote bags

Be on the lookout for the following supplies: white/cream pillowcases, fabric dyes (especially cold water, blocks, old CD’s,

rough sponge pieces, cardboard shipping tubes 3” diameter, Pringles cans with plastic lids, squirt bottles, 4” – 6” tall pillar candles (chips and imperfections OK), paraffin, old crock pot for wax, tiny embellishments, pretty magazine photos trimmed to single objects, solid colored scarves, small wreath forms (Styrofoam or wire), glass pebbles, stained glass pieces.  RAKU AND YOU - We are fortunate to be offering a day long raku workshop conducted by Dan Kuhn of Ton Pottery in Lawrenceville t on July 26. Interested registrants MUST sign up NO LATER than June 15 for the center to purchase the clay and glazes. Registrants are permitted work sessions in the clay studio PRIOR to the workshop itself either on your own time or any Wednesday 10 am – 9 pm from June 18 through July 16. Bisque firing will be done in preparation for the workshop on July 23. Cost is $100 per person.

 ARTIST BIOS - We FINALLY are fortunate enough to have several people who are willing to donate their time to type up your artist bios so that we can educate potential clients as to your skills as an artist. Please email me the information that you would like to have on your biography ([email protected]), drop it into my mailbox at the center, or mail it to the center Attn: Renie Pollock. We would love to have a complete overview of all of our exhibiting artists. The most crucial points are:

1. Art related studies (formal and informal or self-taught)

2. Preferred mediums, subject matter, type of artwork (2D or 3D)

3. Artist Statement and/or artistic philosophy

4. Exhibits, permanent collections, and gallery representations

 ART ON THE VINE - OMISSIONS - I goofed in the last newsletter by forgetting to include Sandy Stoner as one of the very hard working volunteers behind the scenes for the Art on the Vine event.

 Who is Lovebettie? And “who is Ali’s (professionally Alexandra Naples) Mom”? Once again, my shortcomings are blatantly apparent. Our very own PAM Naples is Ali’s mom. Sorry about the wrong name, Pam Lovebettie was a hit at our opening reception for the COLOR!!! Exhibit on May 24. My condolences if you missed that reception because it was TERRIFIC, but you can still visit this handsome show until June 27.

 ATTENTION – PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE ! Show that you love and respect our center. CLEAN UP YOUR HALF EMPTY POP CANS, COFFEE CUPS, AND DIRTY DISHES YOURSELF. Do not leave half eaten packages of food lying around and don’t treat the office area or classroom as a dumping ground. If you are leaving something for someone to pick up, we have a pickup bin in the classroom. Do not leave items lying around on the counters and tables. And, above all, use the kraft paper when you are painting or doing projects to keep our worktables clean. And if you get paint on the tables OR CHAIRS, clean it ASAP when it is easier to remove. We need to “keep house” every day like company is coming. The Public is our company and we need to put our best foot forward. Please do your share.
