FU/Updates  Lesley reported on in person visits: Advanced post cards (prior to consent) are going out the middle of December. The expectation is that visits will start on January 11th and will take one year to complete.  Tied to the in person visit is Andrea LaCroix’s OPACH study (Objective Physical Activity and Cardiovascular Health) which will include measures of physical activity through accelerometers. Eligibility will be determined at the in person visit and if eligible, women will be given information to become part of the OPACH study.  Yunsheng: diabetes incidence paper submitted to JAMA. o Statin use and diabetes paper was accepted by Archives of Internal Medicine and will be out in January 6th.  JoAnn submitted her AS (vit D, alpha-linolenic acid and resveratrol) and will present the proposal to OSMB in Washington the last week of November. Marcia also submitted the physical activity AS and will present to OSMB as well. On-Going Activities and New Ideas  Candyce Kroenke (from Simin Lu’s group) presented a new proposal on socioeconomic disadvantage and telomere length. Candyce will send the proposal to the group and welcomes - Candyce sent any comments and anyone interested in participating. proposals on  Candyce has a second proposal on life stress and telomere length in the same population. 11/7/11 to group. Anyone interested in this proposal should contact Candyce at [email protected]  Molly: R21 proposal update regarding weight changes in women with newly-diagnosed diabetes in the WHI OS: currently on hold after discussions on medication issues and how those would impact weight, but will continue to explore the possibility of submitting at a future time.  Other weight change ideas (JoAnn): o Relationship between diabetes medications (hypoglycemic medications) and weight change among women with diabetes. o Predictors of weight and weight trajectories over time and looking at predictors were discussed. The clinical trial cohort would be a great resource for looking at these issues if someone is interested in pursuing this idea. Other  SharePoint – The CCC continues to migrate the WHI websites to SharePoint. All SIGs have a link on the SharePoint. All materials and agenda items are posted to the SharePoint. Other SIGs are posted as well so you can see documents and 1 activities of other groups.  WHI annual meeting is scheduled to be held in Washington, DC on May 3-4, 2012 with part of that to include the Steering Committee Meeting. It was suggested that Barbara present on cardiovascular in the 21st century at this WHI meeting (AHA talk); Jean and Barbara will discuss this with Steering Committee. The meeting is open to investigators and scientists interested in attending. Updates to follow as more information regarding the meeting becomes available.  Jean will attend WHI meetings the last week of November. The OSMB meeting (we are now considered an Observational Study) at the end of November. SIG updates and accomplishments will be presented to the board. Lesley put together a list of highlights for Jean to forward. The OSMB is a group of external advisors that receive an annual report for review and advisement.  Medication analysis guidelines were sent with agenda for this call and are also available on the SharePoint and P&P websites for future reference.
