Service Entrance Wiring Systems (U.S.) 1 General

Furnish and install a complete UL Listed wiring system consisting of specified wiring cable, components, and accessories listed specifically for use with the system. Designer note: Consult your local Authority Having Jurisdiction to verify that MI Cable is acceptable as a Service Entrance solution. 1.1 REFERENCES 1.1.1 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) 1.1.2 CSA C22.2#124 1.2 SUBMITTALS 1.2.1 Provide product data for cable indicating specific sizes and types by cable reference. 1.2.2 Provide installation schematic detail for records. 1.2.3 Provide manufacturer’s Installation Instructions: Indicate application conditions and limitations of use stipulated by product testing agency specified under Regulatory Requirements. 1.2.4 Manufacturer shall provide specific selection guide for this application, addressing cable size, circuit ampacity, termination location (i.e. breaker or bus bar), and termination method (i.e. size for size, or up-sized tails).

1.3 QUALIFICATIONS 1.3.1 Supplier: Company specializing in manufacturing products specified in Division 26 1.3.2 Manufacturer shall provide specific selection guide for this application, addressing cable size, circuit ampacity, termination location (i.e. breaker or bus bar), and termination method (i.e. size for size, or up-sized tails).

1.4 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 1.4.1 Conform to ANSI/NFPA 70.

2.1 CABLE 2.1.1 Cables shall be single conductor, Mineral Insulated with copper sheath, as manufactured by Pentair Thermal Management, type System 1850-SE or approved equivalent. 2.1.1.1 Mineral Insulated cable shall have the following properties:  Conductor: solid high conductivity copper  Insulation Voltage Rating: 600 volts  Cable Temperature Rating: 90 degrees C  Termination Temperature Rating: 90 degrees C  Insulation Material: magnesium oxide  Sheath Material: seamless soft-drawn copper  Capable of passing electrical impulse tests: B.I.L. 7 kV, Switching Surge 5 kV 2.2 COMPONENTS 2.2.1 Components shall be cCSAus Certified. 2.2.2 Terminations shall be selected and sized according to load requirements, and manufacturer’s recommendations. Manufacturer shall provide specific selection guide for this application. 2.2.3 Terminations shall be Pentair Thermal Management, type SE-QuickTerm or approved equivalent. 2.2.4 Clips, bands, and brass plates shall be supplied by the cable manufacturer as integral to the system, or approved by the manufacturer for use with the system. 2.3 SUPPORT SYSTEM 2.3.1 Cable tray shall consist of a NEMA Class 12B hot-dipped, mill-galvanized, steel ventilated cable tray complete with 45- and 90-degree bends and offsets as required, and louvered cover to be attached directly to the top of the tray. Support system shall include steel Rod-and-Channel trapeze supports. 2.4 LIGHTNING ARREST SYSTEM (OPTIONAL – CONSULT AHJ) 2.4.1 Install lightning arrestor to each phase and neutral at each end of MI Service. Pentair type “SE-PROTECT”, or Cooper Power Systems type “Storm Trapper H.E.” or AHJ- approved equivalent.
