CIT Disability Support Service

Information and Registration All students with a disability and/or learning difficulty should register with the Disability Support Officer who is based in the Access Service in the Student Centre if they would like to access supports their lectures, assessments and exams, learning support, assistive technology etc. Students should fill out the yellow Student Health/Disability Form -available from the Access Service and on the CIT website: www.cit.ie/studentlife/access_disability/quick-links/

The Disability Support Officer will meet each student individually in September/October (once they have supporting documentation about the person’s disability) to confirm their supports and apply for funding from the Fund for Students with Disabilities. Access Learning Support Service There are various workshops, information sessions, or seminars run during the year that can help students with their studies, such as exam preparation, study and presentation skills, and time management. The Access Learning Support tutors are based in the Student Centre and are available to meet students one to one, once the student has successfully applied for funding through the Disability Support Office. Assistive Technology The Assistive Technology Service is on the ground floor of the Student Centre with a full-time Assistive Technology Officer. The Service has 16 computers with software that is useful for students who need support with various aspects of their study. It also has various pieces of equipment to aid and support students with a range of disabilities or difficulties. The Assistive Technology Officer will help students look at the equipment and software packages that could help them at CIT. Training workshops are available to students throughout the year. There is also Read and Write Gold, Inspiration and Mind Manager on all the computers in the Open Access Lab, Assistive Technology Service, CIT Library and most departmental computers.
