Course Description This course of Precalculus enhances on concepts introduced in Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry in preparation for college math, Calculus/Calculus AP and Probability/Statistics AP using various applications. Since this is a PreAP course, the course load will be more challenging. Stated below are the concepts that will be discussed in this course.  Characteristics of Functions  Polynomial Functions  Composition, Transformations, and  Rational Functions and Equations Inverses of Functions  Exponential and Logarithmic Functions  Introduction to Trigonometry  Parametric Functions and Equations  Trigonometric Functions and Graphs  Conic Sections  Trigonometric Equations, Identities, and  Sequences and Series Proofs  Probability and Statistics*  Vectors  Limits and Derivatives* *Optional concepts for students based on performance.

Student Expectations The student is expected to meet or exceed all of the following expectations.  Excel to their maximum potential.  Ask questions regarding academic  Come to class prepared with content and success. supplies everyday.  Participate in class.  Be on time.  Collaborate with classmates and the  Never give up. instructor.  Have a positive attitude.  Listen carefully to instructions.  Maintain a grade of 85 or above.

Parent Expectations The parent is expected to meet or exceed all of the following expectations.  Provide a legitimate business working phone number, or a legitimate email address where you can be reached during school hours.  Provide transportation for morning, afternoon, or Saturday tutorial Contact the instructor to receive information about their child’s progress.  Attend the yearly scheduled parent-teacher conferences.  Check with your child to learn if he/she is completing given assignments inside and outside of class.

Teacher Expectations The teacher is expected to meet or exceed all of the following expectations.  Teach curriculum based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the Standardized Amplitude Test (SAT) in class periods with a 92-minute timeframe each.  Generate potential failure reports to parents, and when necessary, contact parents by phone, letter, or email.  Communicate with students concerning behavior and academic progress.  Create awareness and encourage an appreciation for cultural and ethnic differences.

Grade Breakdown The final grade for each grading period will be calculated and recorded based on the following scale via district policies:  Homework / Classwork: 60%  Projects / Tests: 40%

Classwork Classwork is due at the end of the class period or at the teacher’s discretion. If the student does not submit the assignment on time, then the following penalties will be applied.  1 day late (Next A or B day): Maximum grade of 71  2 days late: Maximum grade of 61  More than 2 days late: Automatic grade of 0

Homework Homework is due at the beginning of class on the date specified by the teacher. If the student does not submit the assignment on time, then the following penalties will be applied.  1 day late (Next A or B day): Maximum grade of 71  2 days late: Maximum grade of 61  More than 2 days late: Automatic grade of 0

Projects Projects are due on the date specified by the teacher. If the student does not submit the assignment on time, then the following penalties will be applied.  1 day late (Next A or B day): Maximum grade of 70  2 days late: Maximum grade of 50  More than 2 days late: Automatic grade of 0

Tests / Quizzes  The student must retake a quiz or unit test if the original grade is not at or above 70.  If the student misses a quiz or unit test, then they must take the test before the end of the week it was given. Failure to do so will result in a grade of 0.

Make-Up Work Policy  For each day a student is absent, they will have one school day to retrieve, complete and submit any work missed. Failure to submit make-up work on the day it is due will result in a grade based on homework penalty system.

Alternate Assignments / Zero Grade Make-Up Assignment  These assignments will be given the week the teacher-made progress report is given. The assignment will replace two DAILY zeros up to 50. No exceptions.

ENRICHMENT Schedule* Students are required to have a minimum of 4 hours of tutoring before extra credit can be considered.  Tuesday - Friday Mornings: 6:45am – 7:15am  Monday and Wednesday Afternoons: 3:15pm – 4:30pm *These times are based on teacher availability due to meetings and other duties assigned.

Progress Reports and Teacher-Parent  The student will receive a teacher-made progress report during the grading period. The student is required to have it signed by a legal parent or guardian. It is recommended that the student’s parent or guardian contact the instructor within three via email school days to inquire about their child’s progress in class. An additional teacher-made progress report may be generated at the teacher discretion.

Supplies The student is expected to have the following supplies in their possession for this class.  Textbooks: McGraw-Hill PreCalculus*  Pencils  Colored pens  Dry-erase markers  College-ruled paper  Two college-ruled spirals  TI-84 Calculator* Note: It is recommended that you invest in your own calculator for homework.  3-inch 3-ring binder  A willingness to learn  Kleenex  Hand sanitizer *These items are supplied to the student during class.

Classroom Rules 1. Be in your seat working on the bell ringer before the tardy bell rings. 2. Raise your hand to be acknowledged by the teacher. 3. Eating or drinking in the classroom is prohibited. 4. The use of inappropriate language or behavior will not be tolerated. 5. During lecture (note-taking), the use of side conversations are not allowed. 6. Follow the directions of the teacher the first time they are given. 7. Adhere to and obey all Desoto High School rules and regulations that are outlined in the student handbook.

General  All work that is submitted, including tests/quizzes, will be done in pencil. Work i n ink will receive a grade of 1. Failure to adhere to these policies could result in parental contact, stu dent referral, and removal from the classroom by in school or out of s chool suspension.
