New Board Member Nominees Four to be elected to three-year terms (2014-17) One to be elected to a two-year term (2014-16)
District I (one to be elected) – John Brouwer = retiring board member Brian Kolb OR Greg Stravers
Brian Kolb lives in Pella, is married to Kim and they have three children attending local Christian schools. Max (15) is a freshman at PCHS while daughters Emma (11) and Tessa (9) attend PCGS. Brian is an engineering manager at Pella Corporation. The Kolbs are members of Faith CRC in Pella. “I believe Christian education is vital to raising our family and preparing them to serve in God’s world. I would be honored to serve on the PCHS school board as a parent representative, allowing me to be a part of an important role within the school.”
Greg Stravers lives in Pella with his wife Marcy and their three children. Justin (18) is a senior at PCHS, Colin (15) is a freshman at PCHS, and Ian (11) attends Pella Christian Grade School. The Stravers are members of Faith CRC in Pella. Greg works at PPI in Pella as the vice president of human resources. “I believe this is God’s world along with everything in it and that we are a fallen people that have been redeemed by God’s grace through Jesus Christ’s blood. We, as parents, have the responsibility to teach our kids what that means, but we can’t do it alone. Christian education is an invaluable resource for us parents as we work together to provide an education for our kids through a Christ-centered worldview. Serving on the board would allow me to use my individual gifts to help the school fulfill its mission to work together with other parents to educate and nurture each child to serve in God’s world.”
District III (one to be elected) – Rick Vos = retiring board member Rick Jansen OR Scott Roose
Rick Jansen lives in Sully with his wife Staci. They are the parents of four children. Darci (22) and Kara (18) are graduates of PCHS, Derrick (16) is a sophomore at PCHS and Kody (12) attends Sully Christian Grade School. Rick works in the logistics department at Pella Corporation. The Jansens are members of Sully CRC. “In order to pass on a Christian heritage, it is important for the parents to stay involved. “
Scott Roose lives in Pella, is married to Diane, and they have three children. Jordan (21) and Jenna (19) graduated from PCHS while Caleb (15) is currently a freshman at PCHS. Scott is in sales and attends Sully CRC. “I am a product of Christian education from kindergarten through college. Also being a 19 year Christian school educator, I see the value a great Christian education is for our students.”
District III (one to be elected) – Brenda DeNooy = retiring board member Loren Fopma OR Brenda Nikkel
Loren Fopma lives in Sully, is married to Shawna, and they have four children. Krista (20) graduated from PCHS, Joshua (16) is a sophomore and Raeann (14) and Keagan (8) attend Sully Christian Grade School. Loren works at Co-Line in shipping and receiving. The Fopmas are members of Sully CRC. “As a previous student and current parent I have experienced and seen the benefits of a strong academic education based in a nurturing and Christian environment that enhances and parallels our family values. The purpose of that education then is to prepare students and develop their Christian faith to be a kingdom worker in the walk set out for them in God’s plan.”
Brenda Nikkel and her husband Tim live in Prairie City. They are the parents of Hannah, Jacob (both PCHS grads) and Elijah, a PCHS freshman. Brenda works as an RN and is a member of Prairie City CRC. “I feel Christian education is important because it assists parents in teaching their children how to live for God in all aspects of their lives. Christian education gives our children the tools they will need to live as Christians after high school. Serving on the PCHS board would give me the opportunity to help in any way I am able as well as provide me with a greater understanding of how the school functions.”
District IV (one to be elected) – Kirk Veenstra = retiring board member Brian Meinders OR Joel Van Gilst
Brian Meinders lives in Oskaloosa with his wife Wendi. Daughter Taeler (20) graduated from PCHS, daughter Tristen (16) is a sophomore and daughter Sawyer (12) and son Blake (11) attend Oskaloosa Christian Grade School. Brian works as a feed department manager for Agriland Feed Service. Brian and his family are members of First CRC in Oskaloosa. Brian supports Christian education and would like to serve on the PCHS school board “to help emphasize God’s will for our lives, and to assist our children to grow up to be living testimonies for Him.”
Joel Van Gilst and his wife Lisa live in Oskaloosa with their four children. Katelyn (20) is a PCHS graduate, Cory (18) is a senior at PCHS, while Ryan (14) and Trent (10) attend Oskaloosa Christian Grade School. Joel is a farmer and attends First CRC in Oskaloosa with his family. “Christian education helps Lisa and I instill in our children the view that our faith should be present in every aspect of our lives. If we are at church, home, work or school we should approach what we are doing with the thought of how does this further God’s kingdom and glorify Him. One of the key components that makes our school strong is the fact that it is governed by parents and supporters of the school.”
District IV (one to be elected) – 2 year term to fill vacancy from last year Linda De Ronde OR Dan Nieuwsma
Linda De Ronde and her husband Kevin live in Oskaloosa. They are the parents of three children, all PCHS grads – John (32), Jill (29), and Kristin (26). Linda, a bookkeeper for Boender Custom Farming/McKim Tractor Service, attends First CRC in Oskaloosa. “Kevin and I and all our children graduated PCHS. It is a wonderful school and we all had great teachers. Our youngest daughter teaches high school at Unity Christian in Hudsonville MI. Christian education has always been very important to our whole family. We are thankful to have been taught by Christian teachers.”
Dan Nieuwsma lives in Oskaloosa with his wife Marla. They are the parents of Eric (27), Katie (24), and Brett (21), all PCHS graduates. Dan is a maintenance mechanic and a member of Bethel CRC in Oskaloosa. “I am thankful for the Christ-centered education that my children received at PCHS which helped to prepare them for college and life. Christian education needs to continue to provide absolute Truth in this age awash in relativism.”
