La Porte Fine Arts Dance Syllabus
Goal
Provide a curriculum that is aligned, assessed, and performance-based in performing and visual arts.
The Student Will:
1. Improve fitness and shape the body by recognizing and utilizing the correct anatomical vocabulary with movements.
2. Review and apply all major muscle groups with physiology of exercise
3. Explore various stretching and agility techniques
4. Learn proper condition and strengthening techniques
5. Participate in various fine arts performances
Clothing
Students are to provide their own fine arts dance uniform and are required to wear it daily in class. The student will provide:
1. A t-shirt – purchased throught D Zine Graphics for $15
a. Please send a check made out to D Zine Graphics for $15 with your child by Friday, September 12, 2014.
b. Include on the check your Texas driver’s License number on the top, and your child’s name and class period on the memo section of the check.
2. Black dance short and black jazz shoes.
a. You may purchase these at Ann’s Dance Wear on Center Street in Deer Park. It’s right across from Luby’s Cafeteria. OR – you may purchase a pair of black shorts at Wal-Mart, Target, Academy, etc…. Just make sure you are COMPLETELY COVERED and you are able to move in them. Same for the shoes. ABSOLUTLEY NO TENNIS SHOES will be allowed.
b. YOU MUST PUT YOUR INITIALS IN EVERYTHING YOU PURCHASE FOR CLASS. THIS WAY YOU ARE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH YOUR THINGS. Grading
Students will be graded daily on proper class material, daily activities, reading and writing skills, and written and performed assessments.
a. Daily Activities, proper class materials = %50
b. Reading and Writing Skill = %10
c. Written and Performance Assessments = %40
Performances
Certain students may be asked to perform in the stands on Tiffy Night, October 25, 2013 with the Chato Dance Organization.
1. Certain requirements that a student must have in place to be considered for this particular performance.
a. Passing all classes
b. Great attendance
c. Proper work ethics in class
d. A willingness to be successful
All students may perform in the assigned performance show on April 4, 2014. 1. Certain requirements for costuming are required 2. Details will come at a later date.
All students may march in the Sylvan Beach Day parade on April 26, 2014. 1. Certain requirements for costuming are required 2. Details will come at a later date Make-Up Work
Daily Make-up work will consist of: 1. A current Event of the student’s choice accompanied with a hand written one page article summarization. a. Clip the article onto the one page hand written summary.
2. Make-up work is due 2 days from the date in which the student returns to school.
Performance make-up work will consist of: 1. A detailed researched project giving by the teacher. The students will have several choices of what kind of research project to do. 2. This project will have a due date given by the teacher.
Medical Excuses
Students with short term illnesses (1-3) days who cannot participate must: 1. Bring a note from home that is signed by the parent. 2. Make-up work is required
3. Students will still be required to dress out every day that they are in class but unable to participate
Students with illnesses/injuries lasting more than 3 days must: 1. Provide a doctor’s note stating the length of non-participation 2. Make-up work is required
3. Students will still be required to dress out every day that they are in class but unable to participate
4. A release from the doctor will be required to be able to return to participating in class.
Locks and Lockers
All students are REQUIRED to lock up their belongings daily. The school and the teacher in charge of the class is NOT RESPONSIBLE for ANY ITEMS lost or stolen.
1. All students are required to have a lock and a locker for their belongings.
2. Students will be issued a lock and locker by the teacher. 3. Students are required to return the school’s property, (lock), at the end of the fiscal school year.
a. Any lost or stolen locks must be replaced by the student. The cost of a lock varies. .
Disciplinary Plan
Follow Campus and District Rules
Dress and report to roll call within 7 minutes of the tardy bell No Horseplay
Follow All safety Rules
Show Good Sportsmanship
Respect Others at All Times
Penalties:
1. Verbal Warning
2. Parent notification and Detention
a. 1st time - 30 min Detention
b. 2nd time - 2 hour Detention
c. 3rd Time Principal Referral Dance Studio Rules
No Food, Drink, or Gum in the studio
Hair should ALWAYS be off your neck and out of your face. A pony tail or bun is preferred.
NO JEWELRY AT ALL is to be worn in class – SAFETY RULE!
Clean up after yourself.
Keep your belongings inside your locker and locked up at ALL TIMES! {Any items left inside the cubby holes are not secured!}
Put your name inside and on EVERY item you purchase for class.
Only talk in class when told to.
NEVER leave the studio without the teacher’s permission.
Bathroom activities should be taken care of at the beginning or end of class.
NEVER CHANGE CLOTHES INSIDE THE BATHROOM STALLS. USE THE SHOWER STALLS FOR THIS.
Respect your classmates’ learning atmosphere; time and abilities. Be positive; engage yourself, ALWAYS TRY, NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF, PARTICIPATE and do the very best you can at ALL TIMES!
