2015-2016 SEMS Physical Education Policy And Procedures For 7 th Grade Students

P.E. Staff: Mrs. Cole, Mr. Ford, Mr. Hein, Mrs. Narens, Mr. Neptune, Mrs. Pitcairn, Mrs. Tuttle.

TEACHERS: Every P.E. teacher is YOUR teacher; therefore, ALL students will treat each teacher with respect and follow all directions provided. Students also need to follow the directions of every other staff member on campus, including all campus supervisors.

UNIFORMS: A P.E. uniform is needed for Physical Education class. This suit may be purchased any time during the school year at the front office from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. or on our online web store - (www.sanelijomiddle.org).  Uniform (shirt/short): $15  Shirt/short (sold separately): $8 each  Dri fit shirt: $10  Sweatpants (optional): $15  Sweatshirt (optional): $20  Cinch bag: $5  ATHLETIC SHOES—Students are required to wear athletic shoes during Physical Education class. The shoes must be laced and tied to support the foot/ankle for activity.

*A substitute for the San Elijo Physical Education uniform is solid black or navy shorts and a plain white or gray t-shirt. Please write your name on the clothing that you bring to school. Turning a shirt inside out does NOT make it a plain t-shirt.

UNIFORM GUIDELINES: 1. The student’s first and last name must be written across the chest of the t-shirt, and at the bottom of the shorts. (Shorts CANNOT have torn "pockets.” If they do, the student will be required to purchase a new pair.) 2. All students NEED TO DRESS FOR CLASS DAILY!!  First non-suit: One loaner will be provided per 6 weeks with no penalty.  Second non-suit: Student will be sent to the Assistant Principal’s office to call home and mention that any additional non-suit for the remainder of the 6 week term, will result in harsher consequences (as seen below).  Third non-suit: Student will spend the period in the Alternative Learning Center.  Fourth non-suit: Student will spend the day in the Alternative Learning Center.  Fifth non-suit: Student will receive a suspension from school.

3. ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO KEEP THEIR CLOTHES IN THEIR ASSIGNED LOCKER! We will not open another student’s locker for any reason. 4. Students are NOT allowed to wear another student’s uniform. If they are caught they will be escorted. 5. Not having athletic shoes for class will constitute a non-suit. 6. Jewelry is not to be worn in physical education classes the prevent injury. It is to be locked up in the P.E. locker during class. The P.E. Department does not take responsibility for lost or broken jewelry. 7. Sweatpants and sweatshirts may be worn OVER the P.E. uniform. Black or gray sweatpants only.

1 LOCKS & LOCKERS: All students are issued a combination lock and locker at the beginning of the year. Therefore, SEMS will not be responsible for any losses.  Students should NOT share a lock or locker or give out their combinations.  Each student is responsible for their assigned lock.  Keep your locker locked at all times.  Larger lockers may be used during class time only in order to secure personal belongings.  If the lock is lost or damaged, the student MUST replace it. Replacement cost is $8.  Cameras/camera phones are NOT allowed in the locker room!  Lockers are for P.E. items ONLY; therefore, students will ONLY be allowed in the locker room during their P.E. period!  Any lock brought from home and used on SEMS lockers will be cut off.

PARENT/DOCTOR NOTES: Occasionally an illness or injury will prevent a student from participating in class. A parent and/or doctor note should be specific. List the injury/illness, how long the student will be out of an activity, or if student can do modified exercises. Does the student need to be excused from all activity or just some exercises? The note is to be turned into the Health Aide office before school on the day the student cannot participate. Parent notes only excuse students from activities for a maximum of 3 days. A doctor note will be required after that period of time.

PARTICIPATION POINTS: Each day that a student attends and participates in class they receive 5 points; run days are worth 10 points. Participation includes warm-up exercises, running assignments, sports, and fitness activities. Students absent from class or excused from participation receive a temporary zero for that day. Those points can ALWAYS be made up. Make-up Points: A student’s grade can be seriously affected by missing class activities (absences or notes). Lost points due to student’s inability to participate in class can be made up by completing 2 laps. Sports packets and/or logs maybe assigned for long term absences.
