JEFFERSON COUNTY COUNCIL on AGING Meeting Minutes June 9, 2016

The meeting was called to order by President Cary Johnson. Those in attendance were Kristin Adante, Ky Agnew, David, Appel, Sue Fenniman, Susie Fogerson, Curt Foust, Kathy Gallos, Stephine Hancock, Dianne Hitchingham, Tom Hitpas, Emily Hobbs, Cary Johnson, William Kistler, Bob Lanky, Gayle Larsen, Jenni Marcols, Donna Mullins, Kristine Nelson, Don Opeka, Shirley Proppe, Lennie Rickman, Maribel Sandoval, Sarah Schoeder, Betty Sweeney, Loretta Trujillo, Dar Vriesman, Kim Ann Wardlow.

MINUTES: April 2016’s meeting minutes were accepted and approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer Tom Hitpas reported the expenditure of $307.06 will be split with Seniors’ Resource Center, the co-host of Senior Heroes 2016. JCCoA received a $1000.00 donation from PASCO to specifically be used for the 2016 Legislative Forum. The current balance is $6190.80. Bob Lanky, Cary Johnson & Donna Mullins are JCCoA’s representatives for DRCOG. At the May DRCOG meeting they attended, it was learned DRCOG will be giving JCCoA $3000.00.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: Dianne Hitchingham introduced new members Shannon Dahl, Gayle Larson & Kathy Gallos.

 TRIAD: June 28, 1:30PM at DA’s Office: What Law Enforcement Can Do For Seniors

 TRIAD: July 26, 1:30PM at DA’s Office: Carnival of Safety & BBQ

 Denver Senior Law Day: July 29

 Art of Aging: August 6, Arapahoe Community College

 District Attorney’s Safety Day: August 13, 9AM-1PM, Jeffco Fairgrounds

 JCCoA Legislative Forum: October 13, 2-4PM, Location TBD

OLD BUSINESS: 1) Review of Senior Heroes 2016 What went well:  Signage was good  Valet parking was thoughtful

 Sign-in was fine; flowers were nice; food good; piano playing prelude excellent

 Program moved at good pace

 Good turnout of many elected officials  Kudos to John Walsh & committee

 Award recipient Dar Vriesman said the award is beautiful

 Appreciate 50+ Marketplace’s PR & recognitions of the Senior Heroes event

What needs improving:  Food wasn’t available when people arrived; should come out sooner  Room was hot  Too many greeters, but good

2) Senior Law Day 2016 What went well:  Two presenters offered to call 32 people who missed session due to full to review their session  Heard from many it was an excellent dollar value  Overall, went well, smooth, well-organized  Vendors felt well-supplied with snacks & “love”  Appreciated non-profits in a separate room  Vendors reported being busy during sessions, which they appreciated

What needs improving:  Rooms were too warm  Many sessions filled too quickly  Need larger rooms  Move popular sessions to later in the day  Vendors would like a map of where all vendors are located in order to direct people

NEW BUSINESS: Sue Fenniman of the Marketing Committee reports that JCCoA jar openers & pens were a hit at Senior Law Day. Need to consider if we want to order more for next year. Please give Sue feedback.

Business meeting was adjourned for the main presentation on the complexities/interventions of hoarding. Presenters were Loretta Trujillo of Seniors’ Resource Center and Sarah Schoeder of Eaton Communities.
