GENERAL INFORMATION

This year the Great Lakes Region Glider Academy will be the 60th CAP Flight Encampment/Academy held at this location with more than 2900 cadets attending. Yes, I believe if a cadet is ready to solo and you and the staff say yes, the cadet is ready. We will do all we can to solo him/her.

Basic Information Arrival: Friday 20 June Depart: Saturday 30 June. Housing - Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois. Staff stays in the same housing as the cadets do, but in separate areas. Rooms are air-conditioned, two cadets to a room, three rooms to a suite with showers. Washer and dryers are available in the building.

Meals – Meals will be catered at the airport in Hangar “C”. (If there are any special diet needs, please advise me as soon as possible)

Airport – MTO – Mattoon Coles County Memorial Airport, Mattoon, Illinois. This airport has been hosting CAP Flight Encampments since 1966. There is a restaurant on the field and a great Airport Authority and FBO.

HOW TO GET TO MATTOON Flying – We will pick you up at Champaign, Illinois University of Illinois Willard Airport (CMI), 50 miles north of Mattoon. Arrive Friday 27 June before 4 PM. We will need the following information: Name of Airline, arrival time, and Flight Number.

Bus/Train – Station is in Mattoon Illinois very close to Charleston. We will meet you at the station. Advise how you are coming and arrival time..

Uniform for Travel is Casual. It will be hot in Central Illinois. We will be staying housing at Eastern Illinois University. You may change into BDUs when you in-process.

Are you on any Medications that are NOT on your Form 31, if so what, describe medications and reason for taking them. If you are thinking of bringing expensive electronic toys this is a Public University and many other students are in the building. If you are going to worry about it, do not bring it.

GOING HOME If you are with your parents, or have made other transportation plans (ie airline reservations), you can leave Friday, 27 June, after graduation. All others will go after Breakfast 28 June. We need to get out of the University as soon as possible as a large group of new students will arrive on that day.

HOME WORK The Wing Runner Course is a Glider Program and test that you need to complete thru the CAP E-SVC on line Quiz system. This is a course on how you work with Gliders on the flight line. Also, take the CAP E-SVC course on Aircraft Ground Handling. Ensure your safety currency with your unit’s program.
