Writing/Reading Journal Activities

Writing/Reading Journal Activities For each week you need to complete the activity listed. These activities are to be completed in your writing journals. With the exception of week one, they will usually be due every Thursday.

Week 1: 22nd of September Write 100 – 150 words describing a classroom setting. You can use the picture below for inspiration:

Try to use all five senses in your writing. Remember: focus purely on bringing the setting to life. You DO NOT need to develop plot.

Week 2: 8th of October Imagine you have been asked to interview the main character from the book you are currently reading. Come up with 5 questions (that are not answered in the book) you would like to ask and write their potential responses.

Week 3: 15th of October Write an interesting dialogue between a teenage boy, Ali, and a shopkeeper who thinks that he has broken something valuable in the shop. Don’t forget to use quotation marks to show what words are being spoken and include dialogue tags (he said, Alice screamed, etc). Week 4: 22nd of October Choose 5 strong adjectives from the story you are reading. Write down three synonyms for each one (you can use a thesaurus for this task).
