Questions

1. Tell me about yourself?

My name is Faye Nguyen and I am currently a senior at University at Buffalo. I will be

graduating next May with a Bachelor in Business Administration with Finance as my

concentration. After that I will apply to the accelerated nursing program where I will be

attending nursing school for another year. Planning on staying in the country from three

to four years to get some experiences. I want to join the Peace Corp afterward to

expand my culture and educate myself more. I moved to the United States back in 2001

with my family all the way from Vietnam. Growing up with two completely different

cultures had taught me how to embrace cultural differences. This is probably why I

enjoy traveling so much and I want that to be the focus of my career. I want to work

oversea as a nurse after the Peace Corp, hoping to make a difference. Helping people in

terms of medical is always my passion and is what really want to do later on. As a

double major at University at Buffalo, I sometimes find it extremely stressful juggling

two completely different majors. I didn't give up because I know by the end when I

made it to the finish line, everything will pay off. I'm a hard worker and outgoing kind of person; overall I'm a people kind of person. I enjoy dealing with people even the one

that is not so friendly. It would be an honor for me to work at your practice for I have

the skills, knowledge’s, and the passion to be a great nurse.

2. What are your strengths and what is your weakness?

My two strengths are my ability to adapt to my surrounding very quickly, and I am also a

positive, optimistic kind of person. My ability to adapt under any circumstances is

probably because I am is a very open minded person. I embrace new things, and looking

forward to meeting new people to learn more. For example working at Tops over the

summer is my first time ever working. At first I was a little nervous about my

surrounding not really knowing anybody there. It took me no more than two days to

adapt and get used to my job. Being optimistic is also one of my strength; I like to be

positive under any circumstances. There is no reason at all for someone to be negative. I

also notice is because I tends to smiles a lot at work since because I am a cashier so I

need to have that big smile on my face all the times. I sometimes had people came up to

me and told me that they liked the fact that I'm always cheerful and always smiling it

made their day. I find it important to be positive around the work place since how one

person act can really have an impact on other. My weakness would be that I tend to be

stubborn. Instead of asking for help, I sometimes just try to do by myself.

I think is good to be stubborn sometime but not all the time. Sometimes asking for help

is a good thing and so I'm working on that aspect. I will try not to work so hard, and when people tell me to take it easy I tend to ignore their advice. I will try my very best

not to be stubborn, and become a workaholic.

3. Why should I hire you?

You should hire me because I know exactly what I can contribute to your practice. All I

ever want to do with my life till the day I die is to help people. To care, to comfort,

to heal, and to treat people. I am a people person, I love spending time with people

rather than sitting in a cubical. I have the skills, the knowledge and the drive to be a

great nurse. The quality that makes me a perfect for this position is my passion for

nursing. My passion to care and show compassion to people is what makes me a great

potential candidate for this job. I volunteer to interpret at doctor, hospital's

appointments from time to time whenever someone from my church needs help. I enjoy

going to the doctor's office because I feel like is a place where I can learn for free since I

can ask the doctor all kind of questions.

4. Tell me about a time you failed to meet a deadline?

I was watching over four Uscan at work this one time and I was pretty busy counting my

money drawer before punching out. I took my eyes off the Uscan for 1 minute and when

I looked up and someone walk out the store with the groceries without paying for all of

it. I ran outside Tops, hoping to find whoever person forgotten to pay $11.50 balance.

I really regretted for not paying close attention during busy hour, and instead of

watching the customers I was so focus on counting my drawer so I can leave. I feel

irresponsible for my action causing Tops lose $11.50. From that day on I make sure to watch the customers closely so I won't make that silly mistake again. I told my manager

about what happened and she was really nice and understanding about it. She told me

is okay but next time I have to be careful, and keeps my eyes open at all times. I learned

that is important to focus on the company's goal rather than your own personal

problems.

5. Describe a time when you assisted a coworker or a team member?

I helped some of the new cashiers when they started working by themself on the second

week. The manager put me on schedule with one of the new cashier so I can help her if

she needed my assistant. I was more than happy to help her out because I remember

when I first started working at Tops I also needed help. She asked me a couple questions

about payments procedures and WIC. I didn't hesitate to help because I know that it is

the right thing to do. My actions will produce positive outcomes for Tops because now

we have a well-trained cashier. I always keep in mind is not about personnel satisfaction

that I should be focusing on but is more of the positive outcomes for the corporation.

The company's goal is what drives me to always do my best at work.
