Minutes of regular meeting – June 4, 2012

Meeting was called to order by Sgt at Arms, Glenn Lynd. Bobby welcomed everyone and thanked them for the good turnout.

Minutes of the May 7th Meeting was read. Motion was made to accept minutes as read, motion was second and carried.

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer Report was presented by Debbie Novak. After deposits from dues, sponsors for car show, and deductions for expenses ending the balance was reported, motion to accept the Treasurer’s report as read was made, second and carried.

OLD BUSINESS:

1) The Car Show at the beach park May 22nd was a success. We had 230 – 240 cars present with 200 of those registered. Bobby, asked if there were any areas that could have been improved on. Most everyone said it was good. Jimmy Lockhart who was in charge of judging suggested we has a runner to carry the votes to Kala to input into the computer. To which Kala jokingly said, “I told you that before the show.” A suggestion was made to maybe have “walkie talkies” to help the runner locate the judges so sheets could be picked up quicker. Also may want to have a special registration form and window sheet or some way we can determine which cars are classified as a “Rat Rod”. If the Owner registers as a Rat Rod there won’t be any confusion. There was some discussion about canvassing the park next year and make a drawing of the layout and each group would know where to set up their booth or tents prior to the show. Everyone thought JoJo did a good job as MC. Everyone gave Betty Carter a big hand for all her hard work making it a great show. Betty thanked everyone who helped and it was a good club effort that made it a good show. She also said there were several people who called her and told her they really enjoyed the show.

2) Bobby passed around a sheet for members present to put down the number of hours they would work during the week of Cruisin’the Coast. Bobby asked John Devera to give some information regarding CTC this year. John advised that the Board for CTC is thinking about changing the way the participating clubs will be paid this year. In the past all clubs split the money allotted equally between the clubs which usually netted approximately $1500 for each club each year. This year they are talking about paying the clubs according to the number of hours each club works. John stated that we have one of if not the largest club on the coast but we were probably close to the bottom in the number of hours our club actually worked compared to other clubs. He also advised that the venue at D’Iberville will be opened back up this year and the Singing River Street Rod club that usually worked there will be back in D’Iberville and will not be helping our club park cars at Cruise Central which is where we are assigned to work. So this year we really need as many club members as possible to step up by helping to work this year. NOTE: Below under Cruisin’ The Coast is more information about this.

Our club can also get hours by helping to stuff the Registration Bags prior to CTC which will count toward our total hours worked and will be in addition to the 8 hour sign up for the event week 10/7 thru 10/14. We will be given the date they will do this which will be sometime a week or so before CTC actually starts.

2 NEW BUSINESS:

1) The Bay Bears Baseball game event is June 9th. They are showcasing different Car Clubs and our club was asked to participate on June 9th. They have a place designated for us to park our cars and then we will be allowed to drive in on the field during pre-game activities. The cost for each person is $6.00 each. If you have a child under 3 years of age, they will be allowed in free, but will not be allowed a seat, that child will have to sit in your lap, or you can pay for them to have a seat.

NOTE: Due to rainy weekend the Bay Bears game event has been rescheduled for Saturday July 21st. The deadline to get tickets for the new game date is July 16, if you did not sign up for the June 9 date and would like to make the July 21 game let me know. If you signed up for the June 9 game and cannot make the July 21 game lease let me know so I can refund your ticket money.

2) Auto Zone on Hwy 90 in Pascagoula has asked us to support a Cruise-in the 5th Saturday on June 30th and September 29th. They will provide door prizes and our club will provide the sound system and music, 50/50 money will go to the club. The time will be from 6:00 – 9:00 pm since the weather will be much warmer by June.

CRUISIN’ THE COAST:

Our member volunteer list has to be turned in prior to the July CTC meeting in order for shirts and badges to be ordered.

If you did not sign up at the June general membership meeting, we need your help. This is another significant event for fund raising for the club.

We will be parking cars at cruise central, Gulfport VA, as we have for the past two years.

If you volunteer for 8 or more hours during the week of 10/7 thru 10/14, this can be worked in 4 hour shifts 9 AM until 1 PM; 1 PM until 5 PM or 9 AM to 5 PM if you wish. IF you work 8 or more hours you will receive a CTC Staff shirt, I will need your shirt size as soon as possible.

If you work less than 8 hours, you will not receive a staff shirt. However, I still need your name and hours you plan to work. I have to turn your name as a volunteer worker in order to get you a badge to wear while working.

1) To work 8 hours or more, I need the hours you plan to work and shirt size

2) To work less 8 hours, I need your name and hours planned to work for a badge.

3) If you cannot work during CTC this year please let me know this is so I will know that everyone has received this info.

Please e-mail me to let me know your plans:

I look forward to hearing from everyone. Again this list has to be turned in to CTC in early July so please respond as soon as possible..

I have not prepared the actual work schedule it will be completed at a later date!!

3 If you have any questions please e-mail or give me a call.

Household Hints:

1) Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold! (But you can scrape off any mold and still eat the cheese without changes in flavor!

2) Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and stronger flavored.

3) Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.
