Web Enabling NACSA Database

All NICOR Lotus Notes NACSA database users.

What’s Happening?

The NACSA (SCTS) database is scheduled for a major upgrade. This will web-enable NACSA, allowing users to access their hospital data over the internet/N3 network via a browser (Internet Explorer (8 and upwards), Safari, Firefox, Chrome). It will also mean that licenses do not need to be purchased and any authorised person in your hospital will be able to access it (although of course the application process does not change).

The work will start on the 12th of July and is expected to take 4-5 days to complete. During this time, NACSA will be offline. We plan to have NACSA back online on approximately the 18th of July. Watch for news items in the Portal.

Once the upgrade is complete, NACSA will remain accessible via Lotus Notes but with limited functionality. You will be able to see your analysis views (Case Mix, Outcome and Congenital) via Lotus Notes – once the new template has been adapted for these kinds of reports, they will be moved to the web application. This will be done in NACSA Web Development Phase II. The data completeness view has been replaced by a reporting tool common to all applications using the new template design.

The export is available in the web application, but it is also going to be available in Notes for a short period of time until everyone is able to use it without any issues.

You will not be able to open or edit existing records or create new records in Notes.

The Consultant/Anaesthetist fields now require a GMC number – this is in line with the dataset guidelines. For a short period of time we will only provide a warning when a record is saved or imported, but if you are using surgeon names instead of GMCs, you should start to make plans to get this changed.

There is a Summary tab on each procedure record which is intended to give you the same warnings you would get if you imported that data, as well as some general information on Consultant, Euroscores, missing fields etc. The fields on this tab will only populate on save.

If you want to use the User Defined Fields, you will need to log a call to have the labels set up for you (if you require labels). This may change if the demand grows or if initial estimates of usage was too low.

Validation is much stricter in the web application. Again, this is in line with the dataset guidelines but it may require you “fix” certain fields on existing records if you wish to make adjustments to them after

NICOR Development Design Standards Page 3 the rollout. Examples are missing times in Procedure Date/time – these will no longer be able to be saved without a time (including existing records).

The import is now done in the background instead of while you wait, thus reducing the time your machine is held up whilst the import is being done.

What We Want From You

Between now and the 12th of July, NACSA will work in Lotus Notes as normal.

During this time, we need to ensure you can logon to the NICOR Web Portal, which is where NACSA web will be hosted. To do this, you will need a web User name and password.

How to find your web User name

Launch Lotus Notes. Your NACSA web User name is the same as your Lotus Notes User name.

In the example below, Lucy locket’s web User name is Lucy Locket/FRE/NICOR

How to find your Web Password

This should be the same as your Lotus Notes password.

Please test to see if you can login to the NICOR Web Portal by going to:

http://web.nicor.org.uk/ (connect via the internet. Most people use this link) or http://web.nicor.nhs.uk/ (if the above doesn’t work, try this. This is the NHS network)

Now click the Login button (top right), and enter your web User name and password:

NICOR Development Design Standards Page 5 If you are successful, you will see this message (circled in red):

“You are logged in as [you] on [server name]“

When NACSA web goes live on the 18th of July , you’ll see a link to it under Database Links.

That’s it, - you’re done! If you don’t see this, read on….

If you’re still having problems logging on, your password is incorrect. Your User name is correct.

NICOR Development Design Standards Page 6 Click the Back button until you’re back to the NICOR Web Portal.

Now click the Reset Password button, enter your details, and click Submit. Follow the instructions to get a new web password.

NICOR Development Design Standards Page 7 Once you have your new web password, try logging into the NICOR Web Portal again. You should be successful this time.
