CC Math 8 Spring Break Project 2017

CC Math 8 Spring Break Project 2017 To help you pass the time of spring break and to give those of you who don’t like tests a chance to improve your grade, here is the Spring project. You are to choose a project from the list below. The more effort that is shown by the project the better your grade will be. This project is worth 50 points and is due the Friday after spring break. Rubric. 1. Make a poster that illustrates one of the Math standards listed below:

8.G.4 Understand that a two-dimensional figure is similar to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations

8.EE.4 Perform operations with numbers expressed in scientific notation, including problems where both decimal and scientific notation are used.

8.EE.7a Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions.

8.EE.8b Solve systems of two linear equations in two variables algebraically

8.G.7 Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles in real- world and mathematical problems.

Posters need to be at least 22” by 28” in size. The more detailed and colorful, the better the grade. Accurate illustration of the Standard involved must be used for full credit. See rubric for grading scale 2. Write a two-page paper about a Mathematician or a topic that interests you. (Pythagoras, Euler, Fermat, Lewis Carroll, using math in computers, Chaos, etc.). That is, two pages typed or three pages hand written. I want a bibliography and I will frown upon papers that are taken straight from an encyclopedia and are not written in your own words. 3. Do the Online Scavenger Hunt that is at Mr. Worland's Site. The Great Internet Scavenger Hunt. 4. Make a slide show of a Math problem showing all the steps and the reason that you are doing what you are doing. It must be at least 10 slides long and have sounds to go with it.
