CAPITOL REGION EDUCATION COUNCIL POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Assistant Director OT/PT Program: Integrated Program Models General Purpose: Under the guidance of the Director of Integrated Program Models, to manage all aspects of the occupational therapy and physical therapy (OT/PT) services program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Develops and monitors budget which balances needs for OT/PT services between school districts and internal CREC programs (Integrated Program Models, River Street School and Soundbridge). 2. Develops policies and procedures for the delivery of effective OT/PT services to school systems that are in compliance with federal, state and local policies and procedures. 3. Monitors OT/PT staff to ensure the services are provided within the appropriate policies and procedures. 4. Hires, trains and supervises occupational therapists, physical therapists, certified occupational therapy assistants and PTAs. 5. Evaluates therapy staff including development of goals and objectives. 6. Develops additional resources and testing materials for use of staff. 7. Works with other members of special education team to ensure that OT/PT practices are effectively integrated into overall school programs. Engages in various public relations activities to promote OT/PT services. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities BS/BA in Occupational or Physical Therapy and 5 years of clinical experience in either occupational or physical therapy, plus 3 years of management experience with exposure to both school system and health care environments or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires good management and communication skills. Must have good knowledge of special education laws. Requires in depth knowledge of all aspects of normal and abnormal child development and of effective delivery systems for occupational and physical therapy services. Supervision Supervise a significant number of staff. Responsible for planning, assigning and reviewing work, budgeting, hiring new employees, setting standards, training, counseling, disciplining and appraising performance. Recommends salary actions. Working Conditions Requires occasional lifting of children on and off equipment and carrying equipment to and from job sites.
