UM Wellness Champions , with Support from MUS Wellness, Have Organized a Week of Fun

UM Wellness Champions, with support from MUS Wellness, have organized a week of fun, FREE activities for UM faculty and staff. There is something for everyone this week and we hope you take some time to fall in love with your personal wellness during Fall in Love with Wellness Week by participating in any of these activities.

Please be sure to join us for the Wellness Week Opening Reception, on Monday, September 19th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at The Iron Griz - 515 South Ave. Kick off this week of wellness and enjoy complimentary refreshments and appetizers prepared with farm-fresh ingredients at UM Dining's own Iron Griz bistro located at the UM Golf Course! RSVP is not required but would help us plan accordingly. Please let us know if you can make it.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 Sunrise Yoga, 7:00 - 7:50 am, Payne Family Native American Center Rotunda. Start your day with Sunrise Yoga taught by certified yoga instructor Hannah Millson! Yoga integrates postures, breathing exercises and relaxation to help people of all ages improve physical fitness, flexibility, and balance; as well as mental clarity, stress management, and overall wellbeing. MUS Wellness Nutrition Specialist Cristin Stokes demonstrates a quick soup recipe that you get to build and take with you! Perfect for a healthy lunch! Planetarium Show, 12:00 - 1:00 pm, Payne Family Native American Center, Stargazing Room. Signup required. Come see the wonders of the night sky and explore the cosmos! Sponsored by the Department of Physics and Astronomy, please join us for a planetarium show that familiarizes you with constellations, planets, and bright deep sky objects! Group Run/Walk, 12:10 - 12:50 pm, Oval by Main Hall. Join UM Wellness Champions for an out-and-back run or walk on the River Trail. Meet on the Oval in front of Main Hall. We'll head towards the footbridge and then west on the river trail. Go at your own pace, and turn around after 20 minutes. Oula, 12:10 - 12:50 pm, University Center, rooms 326/327. Join certified Oula instructor Lizzie Dolan for a lunchtime Oula session. OULA® is a high-energy, easy to learn, calorie burning, crazy-fun dance workout to Top 40 hits. Signup required. Superman, Wonder Woman, Usian Bolt, & Simon Biles. What do they have in common? Well, for starters they can all do super-human things that we can't do. But also, they have some Power Poses that are associated with them, and those we can do. And guess what? Did you know that research shows that when we posture in certain assertive poses, it actually makes us feel more confident, more present, and just better in general? It's true! Come to this workshop and we'll mix some yoga-style & mobility-increasing movements with several Power Poses. We promise you'll leave ready to take on the world! No super powers or special skills required.

Start your work day feeling energized and refreshed after getting in 620 feet of climbing! Go at your own pace – all levels of fitness welcome! Bonus: this month's Montana Moves Challenge is to "Climb On" – this activity will definitely get you closer to achieving 70 flights in one week! In this session, join Tara Lemm, UM Dining Dietician for a tour of the Food Zoo and a discussion on how to build a healthy meal that has been sustainably prepared with fresh, local ingredients. You’ll also learn about how to save some money when dining on campus and about the Food Zoo’s to-go container program so you can enjoy your meal anywhere. Note: participants may choose to purchase a meal either with cash/credit/debit card or Bear Bucks at the conclusion of this workshop. Take a craft break from work over the lunch hour to make a mod podge magnet. Did you know that engaging in creative activities are good for your health? Creative activities help reduce cognitive impairment associated with aging and can help alleviate depression. All supplies provided and everyone is welcome.

Join certified Pilates instructor Laura Porisch for a lunchtime mat Pilates class. Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat or a variety of equipment. It evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates and can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. Pilates builds strength without excess bulk, capable of creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen. All levels welcome. Bring your own mat! Movie Break, "Finding Traction," noon - 1:00 pm, Gallagher Business Building, room 108. "Finding Traction" presents the inspirational story of Bozeman ultrarunner Nikki Kimball's quest to become the fastest person in history to run America’s oldest hiking trail, the 273-mile Long Trail. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 Grizzly Green Market, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, University Center Commons. The Grizzly Green Market, UM Dining's campus farmers market, is open year round every Thursday offering seasonal food that is nutritious and locally sourced whenever possible. Make a purchase and receive a Fall In Love With Wellness Week raffle ticket. Meditation Made Simple, 10:00 - 11:00, University Center, room 326. Join Christine Lustik of Mindfulness in Academia for a mid- morning meditation break that will help you focus and breathe calmly for the rest of the day! The meditation will be based on the tradition of Mindfulness and the session will be appropriate for all levels. There will be a brief introduction followed by a full guided meditation. Chairs will be provided but please bring a cushion if you'd prefer to sit in that manner. Native Plant Garden Tour at the Payne Center, 12:10 - 1:00 pm, Payne Family Native American Center, Outside Benches. Tour the native plant gardens at the Native American Center with UM botanist Marilyn Marler. Learn about gardening with plants for beauty, water conservation, pollinator preservation, and discuss some traditional cultural uses of Montana's native plants. Group Run/Walk, 12:10 - 12:50 pm, Oval by Main Hall. Join UM Wellness Champions for an out-and-back run or walk on the River Trail. Meet on the Oval in front of Main Hall. We'll head towards the footbridge and then west on the river trail. All are welcome. Go at your own pace, and turn around after 20 minutes. Quick Feet: Step Running in the Adams Center, 12:00 - 12:45 pm, Adams Center. Have you ever wanted to be like Rocky Balboa? If he did one thing right in his training, it was stair-climbing. The plyometric motion of quickly climbing stairs strengthens the same muscles as lunges and squats, all while working your lungs and heart as you power to the top. You don’t have to go fast, but you will have to step it up. Bonus: this month's Montana Moves Challenge is to "Climb On" – this activity will definitely get you closer to achieving 70 flights in one week! Led by Wellness Champion Maygan Lenz. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 Sunrise River Walk, 7:00 - 7:50 am, meet just south of the Footbridge on the River Trail. Join UM Wellness Champions for a morning walk along the River Trail. Go at your own pace. All are welcome. Start your day off the right way! Bike to Work Basics, 12:10 - 1:00 pm, Urey Lecture Hall Bricks (Skaggs Building, room 336 in case of inclement weather). Learn how to bike safely and comfortably to work making it a healthy commuting option. Adventure Cycling will be present to help select safe routes to take for your commute. Oula, 12:10 - 1:00 pm, PARTV Dance Studio, room 005. Join certified Oula instructor Todd Seib for a lunchtime Oula session!
