Electronic Licensure Application Process Lisa Froning and Katie Smith updated coordinators on the new online teacher licensure process. They are working to update our web pages to accommodate the transition to online teacher licensure applications. Paper licensure applications will be gone beginning in January. Application for licensure will be online only beginning in 2014. The deadline for our office to accept paper applications will be Dec. 13, 2013. Rachel and Tom are creating a transitional page to assist our students with the process.

Some relevant information for coordinators:  There is no final word yet from ODE about hard deadlines for paper application processing.  Our transitional web page will have pre-application information available through the student portal; it will ask three (3) questions to determine student eligibility, gather demographics, and link them to the ODE licensure application.  Missing information (scores, etc.) will return feedback to the student regarding what they need to submit before continuing.  Graduate students will have issues because of prospectus issues.  All web pages are being updated to direct students to the pre-application page first.  All student payments are also online.  More information will be coming to TEC listserv soon.

Praxis I Transition to Praxis Core Susan Augustine shared that Teacher Education Coordinators need to approve the Praxis I transition to Praxis Core. Information shared included:  Praxis Core began on Sept. 1, 2013.  Cut scores are same as recommended by other schools  There is no percentile ranking  Scores must be published on roadmaps and admission to advanced study program descriptions  Test is presumably based on the common core  ETS is provider of Common Core test  An alternative test will be approved by Math/English faculty. Meeting is scheduled for Oct. 24th.  Question: How do students score on alternative tests?  ACT/SAT test score = _?___ can bypass Praxis. Add this information to the proposal.  The university will change language on web pages but faculty need to update all their documents, including any pdfs, roadmaps, requirements sheets, personal web pages

Coordinators who were presented signed a document verifying their approval of the proposal and confirmation of understanding that they are responsible for updating any internal documents and web pages that use the words “Praxis I” to “Praxis CORE”.

Conceptual Framework Joanne discussed the conceptual framework and how we could educate students and integrate it into practice. Coordinators suggestions included:  Promotion of the framework  Adding it to all syllabi and having faculty review it with students  Adding it to the course as supplemental reading materials  Posters  Banners  Talk about it first and last class  Connect class activities to conceptual framework  Create a graphic to reflect it and post it everywhere  Recommendation of Karen Mercer as a graphic designer  NCATE procedure is first to do off site review, then follow up with onsite review to validate the offsite review data

Advising Notes Joanne discussed the importance of using the advising notes when documenting meetings with students. She noted that the Student Ombuds office uses them as well. It is very important that we all use the notes to communicate. They are also a useful tool for Advanced Study because interview/advising observations of student behavior may be indicated. If you do not have write access for the advising notes, please contact Brian Dehoff to have your program faculty receive access to write in the advising notes. Please be aware that students may request and receive copies of their advising notes.

Progress Report on Year-long Internships and Co-teaching This topic was tabled until next meeting.

TPA Update Lori was unable to attend but there is an EdTPA update posted online. More information will be available after OCTEO. TPA Bootcamp The TPA bootcamp for students and faculty is scheduled for early January. Joanne asked for volunteers for a small planning committee. Suggestions for the committee included Julie Dorff, Becky Morsefield, Katie Knapp and Jen Fisette.

Clinical Experience Update  98% of fall placements are completed  Jim will send additional details on Monday  Hudson and Streetsboro have some interest in co-teaching
