PSJA Website Guidelines

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District Website Guidelines 2012-2013

MUST HAVES When directing parents/community to your website whether it is on print or over the phone please use www.psjaisd.us, then direct them through the navigation to get to your site.

Your Campus Homepage should be the “Announcements & Upcoming Events” Page.

Emergency Notification Banners are to be used only for important announcements or emergencies. They are not to be used as a welcome banner.

Email address: Every principal, counselor, teacher, etc. should have an email address on their pages. The same pertains to Department pages, please include names and email addresses. Please use the @psjaisd.us account. They DO need to check their email frequently.

Please keep your calendar up to date with upcoming events and if your campus or a student has accomplished something that should be featured as a press release please use your homepage as well to spotlight the accomplishment.

Please keep your web pages clean and clutter free. Please to strongly request that teachers not add music or decorative backgrounds to their pages. This does not look professional.

DISTRICT & FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS All Campuses must have the following information:  School Address, phone and fax number  Principal Name (Picture Optional)  Link to page with Campus Administration, faculty and staff listing (pictures are optional)  Map of School (could use google maps)  Pages for the following departments within the school: Counseling, Library, Parental and Nurse  Forms  Student Code of Conduct  Dress Code/Uniform Guidelines, Policy  Update Calendar with campus activities for the year  Clubs/Organizations

*By law all schools should have the following information on their websites.  Campus Performance Reports (No later than the 10th day after the first day of instruction) o Campus Report Card o AEIS Report o Performance Rating  Immunization Awareness Program o A list of required immunization for public school admission o Health Clinics in the district that offer these services o Link to Dept. of State Health Services website  State Testing Dates (include benchmarks)  College Credit Programs for High School Students (Listing & Pre-requisites)  Campus Improvement Plan

Inappropriate Content Being a public institution, schools and departments must be very careful in the content of their web pages. The following items are prohibited from being placed on your web pages:

Commercial Use - A school or department web pages should not be used for commercial services defined as "offering or providing products or services." This does not prohibit school web sites from linking to commercial sites with educational or educationally relevant content.

Political Lobbying - The use of a web page by district employees for political lobbying activities is prohibited. Engaging in fund-raising or other political activities is also prohibited.

Objectionable Material - School or department web pages must not include access to or contain any objectionable or inappropriate material. The Board of Trustees, the Superintendent and the Public Relations Department will define what is objectionable or inappropriate.

Abusive Material - Schools or departments must not post defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, harassing, offensive, or illegal language or material. These items are defined by the Board of Education.

Illegal Acts - Schools must not use PSJA ISD web pages to engage in any other illegal act, such as arranging for a drug sale or the purchase of alcohol, engaging in criminal gang activity, threatening the safety of any person or vandalism. Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm, modify, or destroy data, equipment, or software. This includes, but is not limited to, the attempt to obtain, create, or spread computer viruses.

**Do not forget that your campus home page should always be the Announcements & Upcoming Events Page.

REQUIRED NAVIGATION For the top navigation should always be clear and consistent it should only have the following categories:

Principal’s Message (welcome letter focusing on current year) (Phone number and email address) Administration (assistant principals/facilitators) Staff Directory (use the faculty and staff page)
