Miniature art is named not only for the reduced size of the paintings, but also for the detailed work and vibrant colors used in its composition. Miniature art sometimes defeats the viewer’s belief as to what is possible for the artist to create in such a small space. Most artists work large, but few have the skills and discipline to work miniature.

Miniature art requires attention to the smallest detail, sharpness of line and exact selection of color. The finished product must be perfect enough to be scrutinized under a magnifying glass and still hold together as a fine work of art of much greater size. A Tulips a’glow by Marilyn Wear miniature usually takes as long or longer to produce as a large piece of art.

Open to the public during regular gallery hours from November 18 through December 9, 2005, gallery visitors will be treated to a variety of miniature works by more than 35 contemporary artists covering the full range of artistic expression – including landscapes, portraits and still life created in watercolor, oil and acrylic paints – specifically created for this show.
