From Bishop Dean Wolfe – ATTACH PDF Dear Friends, Epiphany is a liturgical season that easily can be lost between Christmas and Lent. To counteract that, a series of weekly devotions for the Epiphany season has been produced. I commend these devotional resources (which can be printed and placed in Sunday bulletins or made available in other formats) as one way to assist parishioners focus on the season of Epiphany and the manifestation of Christ’s light in the world. A PDF of all the devotions is attached; they also can be accessed online at http://www.anglican.ca/faith/eir/full-communion-partnership/2013-epiphany-devotions/. These materials are a shared offering of the Joint Anglican-Lutheran Commission (Anglican Church of Canada and Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada) and the Lutheran-Episcopal Coordinating Committee (The Episcopal Church and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). The Episcopal Church is doing more and more work with both the Anglican Church in Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and these devotions illustrate our common spiritual foundations and our deepening relationship. May the Light of Christ continue to illumine your path! +Dean

Presiding Bishop calls for prayers for President, US Congress, elected officials Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has joined other religious leaders from the National Council of Churches in calling for a commitment of daily prayers for the President, Vice-President, United States Congress and elected officials from Jan. 3 until Jan. 21. Jan. 3 is the first day of the new Congress; Jan. 21 is the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori has offered the following prayer: “O Lord our Governor, bless the leaders of our land, that we may be a people at peace among ourselves and a blessing to other nations of the earth. To the President and members of the Cabinet, to Governors of States, Mayors of Cities, and to all in administrative authority, grant wisdom and grace in the exercise of their duties. To Senators and Representatives, and those who make our laws in States, Cities, and Towns, give courage, wisdom, and foresight to provide for the needs of all our people, and to fulfill our obligations in the community of nations. To the Judges and officers of our Courts give understanding and integrity that human rights may be safeguarded and justice served. And finally, teach our people to rely on your strength and to accept their responsibilities to their fellow citizens, that they may elect trustworthy leaders and make wise decisions for the well-being of our society; that we may serve you faithfully in our generation and honor your holy Name. For yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Amen.” (The Book of Common Prayer 1979, pages 821-822)
