← I hereby give my word to follow this contract verbatim and to

read like a traffic cop with a radar gun pointed at an

oncoming vehicle at all times while learning online in your

class.

← I. I agree to purchase or check out the required

COURSE MATERIALS:

1. This is my first and final warning to obtain the novel, video or play I need PRIOR to beginning the module. If the library or book store does not have the novel I need, I understand that does affect my grade. If the library doesn’t have the novel I need, I understand I need to purchase it. A delayed Amazon.com order is not a valid excuse.

2. I will not begin reading/watching any material until the course requests me to do so.

3. I will choose novels from the Course Information area under Materials List.

4. If I’m taking the course for honors credit, I must choose the honor novels. If I’m not taking the course for honors credit, I still may choose honors novels.

II. I agree to fulfill the WEEKLY EXPECTATIONS: ← 1. I will read and respond to email regularly.

← 2. I will read your ANNOUNCEMENTS before calling or emailing you.

← III. I agree to follow YOUR PACE CHART found at http://brainstorm1101.com/learn/:.

1. I will complete assignments according to the pace chart that you issue.

2. I can work ahead of pace, but I CANNOT fall behind pace.

3. As an ENGLISH 2 Student, I WILL NOT Choose my own path! My path is as follows:

 Segment 1: Laughter, Love and Loss, Obstacles, Pride

 Segment 2: Betrayal, Fear, Power, Transformation

← 7. I understand that Mrs. Cardenas is not a pace police officer. By entering her course, I am agreeing to complete it according to the pace chart she issues me on her website. I understand Mrs. C spends her time instructing students on reading and writing skills and not answer questions about pace. If I do not know where I am in the course, I am not fulfilling my end of the deal.

← IV. I agree to your GRADING POLICIES:

1. I understand all exams and worksheets are to be submitted one time and there are no retakes on exams or worksheets. 2. I will wait and allow each assignment to be graded before resubmitting.

3. I will view my grade and Mrs. C’s comments by going to ‘GRADEBOOK.’

4. I understand my grade is viewable to me and my parents 24/7.

5. I understand most grading in Mrs. C’s course is subjective, i.e., it’s her opinion. I will refer to her grading rubrics to understand why I received any grade. Rubrics are found at: http://brainstorm1101.com/learn/

6. I understand Mrs. C does not allow resubmissions on work that is an ‘A’, i.e., 90/100 or 45/50. She often writes college and other such recommendations and she uses the final grade to help determine my level of scholarship. If I am going for the ‘A+’ in her class, I should go for it upon my first submission.

← 1. I will be respectful of office hours. Although I have 24 hour access to my courses, I do not have 24 hour access to my teacher(s).

← 2. When communicating with Mrs. C, I will either leave a voice message or email, I realize there's no need to do both.

← 3. If I do not reach her on the phone or by email, I will leave ONE message, ONE time and feel confident that she will receive my message and get back with me as soon as possible. I understand there's no need to leave multiple messages. ← 4. I understand when leaving a message, I will include my first and last name, a brief reason why I called and, most importantly, the best PHONE NUMBER to reach me that day.

← VI. I agree to complete DISCUSSION BASED

ASSESSMENTS (DBA) in a timely manner.

1. I understand the top of my pace chart lists which assignments are considered DBA’s.

2. I understand DBA’s are completed with my classmates using Elluminate. I will check ‘Announcements’ for specific details on how to complete each DBA.

3. I understand the information in Announcements changes over time and will always check for updates.

4. As a 9th grader, I understand Wednesdays are dedicated to completing DBA’s. I will check Announcements for the exact time.. I may skip a DBA that is due on my pace chart if I am not prepared by Wednesday. I will attend the following week.

5. As a 10th grader, I understand Mondays are dedicated to completing DBA’s. I will check Announcements for the exact time.. I may skip a DBA that is due on my pace chart if I am not prepared by Monday. I will attend the following week and will submit the assignment as requested in Announcements for the course to release the next assignment. 6. I understand if I need to complete a monthly call, I will use the virtual scheduler located on Mrs. C’s Announcement page to book an appointment.

← VII. I understand how FILE NAMING works

← 1. When sending files that have photos, graphics, or pictures of any kind, I will NOT send these files as an rtf (rich text format).

Sending as an rtf removes all items in a document except for words. The following link provides a safe, free way of converting my documents into pdf’s:
