Objectives: Students successfully completing this course will be able to 1) distinguish among different types of library and information resources and select the most appropriate for usage depending upon the information requirement 2) recognize elements of bibliographic citations and correctly cite sources 3) use databases and print tools to locate books and other information resources 4) exercise critical thinking by applying evaluative criteria for when engaging information both in a library and on the World Wide Web
Grading: Students’ performance in the following seven areas determines the letter grade that is earned: 1) attendance (10 possible points) 2) class participation (5 possible points) 3) homework/quizzes (answering questions on assigned readings, etc.)(10 possible points) 4) completion of “in class” (hands-on) assignments (45 possible points) 5) test 1 (10 possible points) 6) bibliography project (10 possible points) 7) test 2 (10 possible points)

Required Reading: Any handouts, articles, excerpts, etc. provided by the instructor in hardcopy format or via the World Wide Web.
Missed Class Policy 1) Missing any class/assignment/test/quiz/project without the student contacting the instructor by telephone or by email (see the instructor’s email address above) within two days of the absence to arrange for completing the assignment WILL AFFECT your point total/grade. This means you must contact the instructor by Wednesday during the week that you missed a class. 2) In the event that you miss a class, you must obtain the missed assignments/handouts before the next class meeting and the missed assignments will be due at the next class meeting. Readings and assignments are obtainable from the class website at: http://tinyurl.com/npd57. Understanding and integrating information for this course depends upon knowledge of information presented in previous classes.
