Presented by SIUE School of Pharmacy Faculty: Dr. Kelly Gable is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at SIUE School of Pharmacy. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, School of Pharmacy, and subsequently completed a specialty residency in psychiatric pharmacy practice at the University of Southern California. Dr. Gable is a board certified psychiatric pharmacist. She is an adjunct assistant professor with the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Department of Neurology and Psychiatry.

Dr. Lisa Lubsch-Bimpasis is Clinical Associate Professor in the Pharmacy Practice Department at the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. She currently provides care to children on the pulmonary and pediatric general medicine services. Dr. Lubsch-Bimpasis previously served as a Pharmacy Practice faculty member at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy while maintaining practice sites at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Adolescent Medicine, Pulmonary, and Endocrine clinics.

Dr. Chris Lynch is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and The Director of Clinical Programs and at SIUE School of Pharmacy. He is a native of Southern Illinois and returned to the area from New Orleans, where he taught and practiced for 10 years. He received his B.S. and Doctorate of Pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy and completed a residency in Family Medicine and Clinical Community Pharmacy at St. John’s Mercy Medical, Department of Family Medicine.

Workshop Objectives: This workshop will focus on prescription drug abuse and dependence throughout the lifespan. The audience will hear from several clinical specialists in the area of prescription drug abuse, addiction, mental health, and recovery. The presenters will provide an introduction into commonly abused prescription drug products (pain medications, stimulants, sedative-hypnotics), as well as current trends with regard to drug abuse and safety. They will focus on specific population groups including adolescents, healthcare providers, dual diagnosis, and geriatrics. Participants will gain a better understanding of specific prescription drug products that can be abused, how these medications impact individuals across the lifespan, and treatment options available to combat the drug abuse epidemic.
