The girl was very kind to everyone. She helped her younger sister with her homework every night. Whenever it snowed, she would get up early and shovel her elderly neighbor’s driveway for him. She always had something nice to say to everyone. Her friends and family said she had a heart of gold.
The boy woke up with a very bad headache. His mom took his temperature and found out that he had a small fever. When he tried to get out of bed, his entire body hurt. His mother let him stay home from school. She told the nurse that he was under the weather.
When summer vacation arrived, the girl had nothing to do. She slept until 11:00 every morning. She watched six hours of television every day. She also started picking fights with her younger sister for fun. Her mom decided she needed to go to day camp because she had too much time on her hands.
The girl loved to work in her garden. It seemed to others that she could make anything grow. Her friends would bring their sick plants to her and she would always be able to make them healthy again. The garden at her house was the best in the whole town. People always told her that she had a green thumb because of her ability in the garden.
John’s father was turning 40 in a week, which John thought was very old. He had found the perfect present for his dad, but was still looking for a card. He wanted it to be funny, so that his dad would laugh. Finally, on the day before his dad’s birthday he found the perfect card. The card said, “You should really stop climbing because at your age, you are over the hill.” The girl was not good at paying attention in class. She was always daydreaming about what she was going to do after school. When the class did projects, she usually drew pictures that didn’t have anything to do with the assignment. When the teacher called on her to answer a question, she would say, “Huh?” The teacher told her that she had her head in the clouds.
Michael had never been skydiving before. As the plane went up the air, he started to feel a little nervous. His friends jumped out and screamed as they went. When he got to the door of the plane to jump out, his entire body froze. The instructor looked at him and said, “It looks like you’ve got cold feet.”
It was opening night of the school play. Jessica had never been on stage before and all day she had been very excited. But as the start of the play got closer, her feelings began to change. Her hands stomach feel very tight and her hands started shaking. She was beginning to get scared about going on stage. One of her friends saw how nervous she looked and said to her, “Don’t worry, Jess, we all get butterflies in our stomachs on opening night.”
Steven’s mother told him to take an umbrella to school. She had heard the weather report which said that the storm would be bad. Steven never liked to listen to his mother, so he left without an umbrella. By the time he got to school, he was completely soaked. His teacher looked at him and said, “You really should have had an umbrella. It’s raining cats and dogs out there.” I knew that I should never skipped my homework. But I really wanted to go out and play with my friends. So I told my mom I finished and she let me go. But when I got to school, the teacher was very upset. He called my mom right away and she even more angry than he was. I knew that when I got home I would be in the doghouse.
Sarah was always doing a lot of things. She played soccer and basketball. She was on the student council. She also tutored younger students twice a week. Soon she found that she was too tired to get any school work done. When she started doing poorly on her tests because she didn’t study, she realized she bit off more than she could chew.
Jack almost always did what he was supposed to do. But one day, when he was supposed to be babysitting his brother, he invited his friends over to play. They were so caught up in their video games, they weren’t paying attention to his brother. Suddenly, they heard a cry and found that Jack’s brother had fallen down the stairs and bruised himself. Jack knew that when his mother found out what had happened, he would be in hot water.
