The Parent Safety Program (PSP) is here!
The PSP motto is ‘Choose Safety Over Convenience’
PSP is a community based non-confrontational program. The main purpose of PSP is to reduce or eliminate the number of traffic hazards that create a safety risk for children every day when arriving at school. The program essentially creates a designated ‘Kiss ‘n’ Ride’ for the dropping off and picking up of children.
Our program will be active in the morning for Grade 1-8 students on the west side of Clendenan Ave between Annette St and Jennings Ave. There are already designated signs and the metal railing was removed to allow 2 cars to pull into the area. We are looking toward implementing a program for JK/SK once we pilot the grade1-8 program.
Starting on Thursday, November 24th, the PSP Program will operate from 8:30-8:50 am each school day morning. The program is supported by the Parking Enforcement Unit of Toronto Police Services.
At the moment we have 3 parent volunteers from HPAS and are looking for at least 2 more. For the most part, the parent role is supervisory. If you can dedicate one morning a week for a half hour, please contact the office.
How does the drop off work?
1. There will be pylons marking the drop off area as well as an adult and 2-3 students wearing recognizable safety vests. Pull your car to the front of the drop off area and put it in ‘park’. Parents please do not get out of your car! 2. Ideally the student(s) arriving will undo their seatbelt, open their own door and get out. 3. All students exit the car on the curb side of Clendenan Ave. 4. Parent volunteers may help arriving students open the car door if they need help and the parent is comfortable with doing so. 5. Volunteer students will be escorting students into the schoolyard as they arrive. Older students may walk themselves to the yard, younger students should be escorted.
For the first few weeks of the program, Officer Mike and Officer Ted will be supporting us. If you have further questions or concerns, please call or email!
Sincerely,
