Dear Families s7

Kindergarten Newsletter February 3, 2017 Dear Families,

We hope you enjoyed all of the events for Catholic Schools Week. We sure did! We really enjoyed seeing you at Open House on Sunday, and the Grandparent Tea was so sweet! The kids did a fantastic job singing, and they were so happy to spend time with their grandparents and special guests at school. The Town Hall and dance were so much fun too, and the Spell-A-Thon was a HUGE success! Your children were truly amazing! They were so excited to participate and loved receiving their Super Speller Award certificates. We will send home the number of words they got correct and the pledge sheets with amounts owed on Monday. It looks like we will be able to get our Bulletin Boards and arrange to have a “field trip” brought to us on campus as well! We will let you know all of the details as we get them. Again, thank you SO much for the overwhelming support! I bragged about our Super Spellers all day yesterday! We are so very proud of all of our kids! The Kindergartners are enjoying hearing about how our Superkids started their club. The Superkids' first problem was finding a place to meet. Luckily, they asked for help from the adults in their lives and were given an old bus to use as a clubhouse. The Superkids have been busy cleaning it and deciding how to decorate their new hangout! Along with reading about the Superkids, your Kindergartners have been learning about the letters Bb and Rr and the sounds that go with them. They have been doing a great job reading much harder and longer stories! Keep practicing blending with them at home, especially blending with our new sounds. The /r/ sound is a very hard sound for some children to blend, and may take a lot of practice, maybe even 100 times! Speaking of 100, we celebrated our 100th day of school on Wednesday! We enjoyed special activities all centered around the number 100. A few of the fun things we did included making 100th day crowns, eating snacks made of 100 things (which we counted out ourselves!), counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s, Dancing to songs about 100, and showing our 6th grade buddies just how well we can count to 100! Some fun may have been had with 100 cups and Froot Loop necklaces as well, but you should ask your kids for details! Oh, and we can’t forget the 100th Day shirts! They were amazing! So creative! Thank you to everyone for really making the shirts special. The kids LOVED sharing them at circle time! February 10th is Jump for Heart Day! We will kick off the day with a Town Hall and then jump rope with our buddies afterward. Students can earn Red Free Dress for that day by bringing in $1.00 donation, which we will give to the American Heart Association. This is a great way to help a good cause and earn free dress at the same time!

Valentines Day is coming up soon! We will be celebrating on Tuesday, February 14thwith a fun holiday treat and by exchanging valentines. Please send your kids to school with 23 valentines made out to "Friend" and signed by your child. The children will distribute these in class and each child will come home with a bag full of valentines! Thanks for celebrating Catholic Schools Week with us and supporting our very first Spell-A-Thon! We are so very blessed! We hope you enjoyed this wild week as much as we did! Enjoy your weekend!

Blessings,

Mrs. Santa Maria & Mrs. Bongco
